<description><![CDATA[anon posted : I live in the UK and the linksys uk website also says their is firmware available for aol broadband sharing through their router, but the UK techs no nothing about networking aol broadband, and they also only offer usb modems, and say ethernet modems dont work with aol... does aol have to recognise the modem to work with dsl when using a router? or can you just use tcp/ip setting when using the linksys router?<br><br>thanks.]]></description>

Just use "america online" for the username, and don't touch the password (it'll be all stars).<br><br>Now, just set AOL for TCP/IP or Home Network to sign on and get the DNS Servers for you.<br><br>You still need AOL to sign on to the 'net... Crappy setup...<br><br>Easy Fix: Do what I did and get Cable... I have the DSL modem connected to the Uplink port and the wired desktop to port 1. Port 4 cannot be used because it's shared by the Uplink port. <description><![CDATA[jmper posted : I have MSL on $19.95 plan. I called up AOL and asked then to help set-up D-LINK wireless router to home network. They told me that my MSL was already turned on since 6/19/02, but it will work with AOL branded router. Called cancellation to bitch about the poor service I have received and to cancel my DSL service and they gave 4 months free. So now I have home networking and free DSL, also I had to trade in the D-Link for a Linksys as I could not get the wireless to recognize the DSL modem with the D-Link.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[AOLHN posted : Certain routers now carry the custom firmware that enable them to function seamlessly with the AOL Broadband service.  <br><br>For some time now a limited supply of Linksys routers have been available for those members who call in with the desire to set up an AOL Broadband-based home network.  These are unique units that are ONLY available through AOL, for now.<br><br>Recently Actiontec launched a line of routers that also carry the custom firmware.  They are available now at AOL's Shop Direct, in the Hardware section under "Broadband/Modems", along with their associated adapters.<br><br>Enjoy   :)]]></description>

They are not, will not, activate MSL on my account. With the amount of information they have given me over the past few days I doubt even if I do get the AOL branded router and comply with every single request they make I will still not be able to sign on with more than one name.<br><br>I will make one final attempt, this time I will try to speak directly to an AOL Tech Dept Supervisor. As far as the AOL Techs are concerned, the people on the $19.95 plan who did get this to work are persona non grata :P, at the very least you are far and few between or don't exist at all ;)<br><br>More updates as they come, though I believe this is the second to last post I will make on this thread.<br><small>--<br>You've taken your first step into a larger world.</small>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[IMozes posted : I notice people are having trouble getting AOL to enable MSL on their accounts.  I personally had no such problems.  They enabled it for me while I was on the phone!  I wonder, therefore, whether some folks who "think" MSL is not working are making the same mistake I did ... i.e. trying to sign on from different computers, but using the same screen name.<br><br>MSL ONLY WORKS IF YOU SIGN ON WITH DIFFERENT SCREEN NAMES!<br><br>Just a suggestions....;-)   Sometimes, one discovers that the only thing wrong with the computer is that it's not plugged in!!]]></description>
