Having read all the info on the links you've supplied, and having followed various links from those pages, for the last few hours, it looks to me, an efficient noobie [that's a pun, son], that the Speedstream 5861 would be a more desirable alternative to a Cisco 678 than a Speedstream 5660, i.e. a 10BaseT 5861 using a single port into a 10/100 switch. Do you have any experience with, or any thoughts or comments about the Speedstream 5861.
Checking completed items on eBay, it seems that if you're patient you can get a 5861 for
about the same price as a 5660. Here's proof:
