Re: high pings to gateway

I don't have test results to post, because I don't know where to do these tests, been too lazy to look up how. I will try to do it later, but my experience so far has greatly improved... but still not optimal... as in it's not STUPID FAST, as it used to be.

Your specific node is a bit busy, but not the entire hub as it was before the fix. I also understand that Cisco is still working on this and may be able to further improve things.

Thanks everyone for your patience.

E88,

Still seeing extremely slow speeds in North Edison. Started about 3 weeks ago. Went from 5000 kbs to around 1200 kbs (dropping during peak hours to under 1000). Ping test shows very little packet loss. Called problem into OOL and they sent a tech to the house. He checked signal at multiple points in the house, changed the connector out at the street, and checked at each connection. He found no problem with my setup, but could not explain the slowdown except possible problems in Piscataway. Have been following this post for the past week hoping whatever work they were doing in Piscataway would clear this, but apparently not. What can be done now? MAC 00-50-DA-A9-81-90.

Thanks,
Bill

There may also be a problem on your specific node. I'm seeing over 90% upstream channel utilization there, and low downstream c/n on all the modems I've checked. Not sure if retransmissions caused by the low c/n can cause the upstream problem, but I will ask about it Monday.

Modems on other nodes on your CMTS look fine.

Your modem's signals:
Downstream power: 0.0 dBmV [DOCSIS limits -15..+15 dbmV]
Carrier to noise: 28.0 dB [Normal in 30..37 dB range]
Upstream power: 39.0 dBmV [Normal range 30..55 dbmV]
HW/SW: MCNS external 2-way Cable Modem 3CR29220 HW_REV: 2.00; VENDOR: 3Com; SW_VER: 01.12
Uptime: 1d 3:25:16.98
Status: operational

Note: modems that read 0.0 dBmV downstream do not correctly read downstream power

If you IM me your account info, I can try to refer for a follow-up to the service call.
