You want fries with that?Cracks me up that although the receiver is $300, the antenna is "Sold separately"! DUH! What good is it without the antenna? They came to my workplace a few months ago to give a demo. The car had a way tricked-out stereo system, and it sounded OK. Several of us asked the guy (young kid, NO tech background) what it sounded like playing through the regular speakers, and he said "You really need a GOOD stereo to get the most out of it!". So they want you to buy another $1000 worth of gear to make it sound good? I don't think so, at least not in MY car. What a waste of spectrum! drjim |

Not to gripe, but there are four different types of antennas, hence why they don't include it. They're all significantly different, so you wouldn't want them to include it, and because of the multiude of receivers, it'd be silly to make bundles. |

Actually if they were smart they would include some junk antenna just so people arent surprised about the lack of antenna. But yes, no radio I ever bought for my car came with one, nor did the cellphone.. |

The rep that came told us you had to buy it separately, and all the ads I've seen say the same thing. Maybe you got a special deal or maybe they've changed and haven't updated their ads. |

Re: You want fries with that?Check your facts before posting bogus stuff. » www.crutchfield.com/cgi- ··· ?cID=701The tuner is not 300, it's $149 for the Pioneer tuner, $199 for the FM Modulated model. I have both in two cars, and they work and sound great - even the FM mod model. Many places (like Crutchfield, as shown) are giving credits and rebates. The antenna is $79. So, its $229 for the whole thing wired, $279 for a whole setup FM mod. The model the other poster is talking about is the sony, which is $299 *including antenna*. So, it's not $300 "plus antenna".. Everyone who sees my XM says "Yeah, but it's like $400".. bull. I got mine put in for $229 - free install at circuit city - and got 3 months free. Works perfectly, and I wouldn't be without it. |

Look, I'm just going on what I've SEEN. The rep who came to my workplace told us, and gave us brochures, that said it was $300 for a receiver (NOT a tuner or add-on), antenna and installation extra. I could care less whether you bought it at BestBuy, Joe Blow's stereo, or from eBay. I'm NOT posting bogus info, and I'm sure there are PLENTY of stupid people who paid that for it. |

Oh please. I'm sure there are people out there who've paid $2000 for a 10 year old 486 PC, but who's the idiot there? You were passing judgement on the viability of XM from some salesman who showed up.
Just because some idiots paid $1500 for VHS VCRs when they came out, does that mean that the idea and the product was stupid? Sure, XM was expensive when it was just introduced last year, but the prices are coming down every month as more and more people sign on and it gains market penetration. Just because someone thought he could sell you the tuner for $300 alone doesn't mean XM is, as you put it, "a waste of spectrum". Anyone who buys ANY product sight unseen without doing any homework is asking for trouble -- and that reflects nothing on the product itself. |

I think we've established that said salesperson was hiking up the prices. He was probably taking advantage of the fact the presentation wasn't in a store. Can't blame a guy for trying to make extra money. It's capitalism... RIAA style. |
