Netgear router in the way!

I use a netgear mr314 router with a built in firewall. When trying to fly Falcon 4.0 online I have to wire around my router before amyone can see me. Is this normal? Falcon is the only game I've tried online. When I exclude the router all is well. Could there be port blockage somewhere?

For Falcon 4.0 the following ports should be forwarded:

ports 2934 and 2935 (TCP and UDP for both ports)

Just use your router setup page to forward both ports to your internal (LAN) IP of your gaming rig.

Thanx for the info Dubon, however I don't know how to forward ports. My router is web-based config. It asks for start port and end port. Is this where 2934/2935 are assigned?

That is correct. just as you wrote it. make sure you send it to the proper pc's ip#. Also, there is a possibility you will have to forward the directx port numbers too.
