BrianDamage06 posted : What the deal is most times is that these developers come into agreements to run FTTH to the homes, with a headend located somewhere in a subdivision.
There are access points at this headend so that common carriers can connect to the terminals.
Therein lies the problem, that I refer to as "putting the cart before the horse". You have network capacity to that headend, obviously. But, you have no carrier service available at the headend or terminal put in place.
Developers count on people not understanding these kinds of deployment and broadband issues to sell houses. Period.
People buy these homes thinking that they are going to have this amazing capacity only to find that there is no carrier providing services. This is what I am trying to point out. This is not hard to understand at all.
When you have the capacity to the home, that's great, but if
you have no carriers providing service, then it pretty useless to you.
This is what has happened in many areas around the country. There are few carriers in place that are prepared to deliver these kinds of services. Everywhere else, this FTTH adds to the dark fiber figures we have all come to understand.
This is not all that hard to understand at all. When capacity and available services come full circle, then we can stop complaining about the gluts that exist.
But, this has not yet happened, and don't expect it be to fixed in a few months.
This trend will continue for a while to come, I suspect.
--
After ten long years they let him out of the home...(excitable boy, they all said)...and he dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones...(excitable boy, they all said)...

alchav posted : When they lay fiber it has to go somewhere, what did your developer say? It sounds like these developers just lay fiber to jack up the price and bring in dumb people that don't know what they are paying and getting. So people let's wise up, if this fiber doesn't go to a Provider then see if you can work up a plan to Network the Community and run it to a central location. With a Giga-Ethernet you have many options.

ALC
