YearZero4 posted : Hey try this for me.. Do you have any free computer that you can run other tests with... I had a ton of problems too then I reformated my computer and it opened up and accepted all the bandwidth. Also when I use to have roadrunner I was using AOL and it was keeping download speeds really slow so I reformated and everything worked beautiful. What I am saying is that over the course of using your computer you can install and add certain things to just make one little thing not work to it's full potential. I know a reformat is drastic but overall a majority of the times it works. I use to have mediacom a few weeks ago before I moved out to KS to use Cox and before I got on there networks I did a reformat also.
--
"So hands on the bible, scared like a child, God holds you liable for what you've done"- Local H

furtadomh posted : I have had problems with my account after I transfered it. I came unregistered about 4 times over a two week period in late august. I had to call four times and give mediacom the mac address to my modem. They said the local office was missing information but when I call them they said they weren't. I haven't had any problems with registration but my connects gone down the drain. I check sas.r21... once and awhile and it shows me registered. On a different note I got a bill for august that is totally bizare. They claim I owed 15$ from last month which I have the bank statement to disprove. Then somehow end up with a -16.52 credit. Theres nothing left to do but laugh.

Is my modem dead or something?
»/quali ··· /852424

Mon 09/02/2002
9:16p

pinging dslreports.com [209.123.109.175] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=313ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=141ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=204ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=204ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=250ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=329ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=329ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=297ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=219ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=172ms TTL=246

Request timed out.

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=219ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=47ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=172ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=344ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=344ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=141ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=250ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=391ms TTL=246

Reply from 209.123.109.175: bytes=32 time=641ms TTL=246

Ping statistics for 209.123.109.175:

Packets: Sent = 20, Received = 19, Lost = 1 (5% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Minimum = 47ms, Maximum =  641ms, Average =  250ms

===========================================================

Tracing route to dslreports.com [209.123.109.175]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 234 ms 78 ms 219 ms 10.17.240.1

2 141 ms 281 ms 94 ms 12.215.16.161

3 31 ms 31 ms 141 ms 12.215.5.18

4 375 ms 32 ms 93 ms 12.123.4.162

5 188 ms 219 ms 265 ms 12.122.11.37

6 266 ms 328 ms 375 ms 12.122.10.49

7 203 ms 94 ms 359 ms 12.123.214.181

8 141 ms 63 ms 187 ms 12.119.140.30

9 266 ms 172 ms 312 ms 209.123.11.237

10 188 ms 250 ms 110 ms 209.123.109.175
[text was edited by author 2002-09-02 22:54:54]

furtadomh posted : Thanks for the suggestions. Im really sick of fighting with Mediacom on something Ive realized will never be fixed. I just want to be finished with the whole ordeal. Ive wasted far too much time and energy as a consumer. I have documented my problems over the last 8 months and will send a letter to the city. I will look into dsl and finish out september with Mediacom. I told the tech I noticed slower speeds when everyone moved back. He said yes my connection would be slower. Its simple I refuse to pay more for a slower connection. Anyway thanks again I wouldve been lost without this board.

On a side note I would like the $20 credit I was promised.
Account#8723150040029417
To: "Jason Monroe" was the tech who told me I would recieve it for my outages in June

[text was edited by author 2002-08-31 21:41:11]

marigolds posted : Hey furtadomh,
Do the local franchise a favor... call up and ask to talk to the franchise manager or the head tech (I forget their last name's right now, but both were named Rick. Also, Rich Brunner was the head guy for cable modem techs. The franchise manager is the same guy, but the rest might have changed).
And tell them that the tech ignored the problem you were having and walked out the door on you, and hence you canceled.
(as a side note, this may get you a partial refund or an offer of up to 3+ months of free service, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it).
There are lots of dsl options in the area (all through qwest, but tons of better ISPs than qwest).
--
ISCABBS - the oldest and largest BBS on the Internet
telnet://whip.isca.uiowa.edu
or Go to
»isca.whiteboard.net for more information (and java telnet access)

DJ posted : That stinks what they've been putting you through. It might be interesting to see how the customer rep will react when you call to cancel. Any ideas on who you'll turn to for broadband? Or is dial-up going to be the norm, since that's pretty much what you were getting with Mediacom. Sorry to see you go! :[

edited to change sad face from :( to :[
[text was edited by author 2002-08-31 18:58:22]

Goodbye Mediacom

furtadomh posted : The service tech came today ran a speed test at some random site that showed my speed was over 2mb dl. Said my connection was fine and looked at me like I was crazy. I tried to show him the tracerts but he didn't look at any of them. I told him I would have to cancel my account if there wasn't anything he could do. He didn't say anything walked out the door and left. I don't understand why dl speed is the be all end all of connections. Ive never dl at anything faster than 200k. I tried to tell him I play internet games and I ping the equivalnt of a 56k modem he didnt care. So after a year of trying to make things work with mediacom I give up. They wouldn't even meet me halfway. Ive been lied to, ignored and replaced hardware that wasn't broken. So thanks to the small group of people on this board who actually seem to care.
