Please how Linksys is a good match? Any switch should work with the Winfirst service... |

LoL I went to fry's electronics and got a HAWKING TECH 5-Port Mini Switch 10/100. Came with a free 10/100 NIC too for 19.99 haha. what a deal! |

If "any" switch should work fine. Why your post?
"Go Netgear, there's no question about it. Netgear is a spin-off of Bay Networks (now Nortel) and they have always lived up to the quality of the Bay Networks name (I still have two switches in use that have BOTH Netgear and bay logos on them)." |

Because I recommend highest quality, yet cost effective components that I know will be problem free for users. However, any switch will work, but your statement about it being a good match makes no sense. Ethernet is ethernet, just so happens that Netgear is a higher grade of equipment, but they both make a good match. So, please explain what you meant since it doesn't seem to make sense. |

a.) I have the winfirst service.
b.) I use the linksys switch.
Statement: They make a good match.
If a Network and Systems administrator with what I would assume has some college background to attain such a position, I would like to think that CTL Systems is getting there monies worth and can logically put a+b together without too much difficulty.
I'm busy listening to the game now, so I don't have time to address your assumptions that Netgear has higher grade equipment. |

you are too funny... you know nothing about myself or my position and you can make a logical deduction... That's pretty flawed logic.
The logic that forms the basis of that statement is still flawed, but I'm not going to waste my time drawing you the diagram as to why. But I'll dangle a hint for you... Ever heard of independent variables? |

Didn't mean to cause problems. Netgear does have better ratings then linksys, but they are both good companies. I would buy products from both, just depends which one is on sale or a better deal hehe D: |

I just went there 3 hours ago and picked the same thing up. Thanks for the deal!! |

Yeah i posted this topic then came friday looked in the ad and what do u know? switch/nic for 20 bucks. The netgear/link sys/d-line etc where like 49.95 bucks but then rebate was 39.95. There was a linksys representative there ordering products. He so tried to get me to buy one of theirs lol. Not for 39.95! I also saw a BOSE presentation. Also tried to get the people to buy bose system for like 5,000 dollars haha. |

Which equipment is better is always a topic to watch... This happens a lot in the Networking forum. |

I make my deduction based on your "title" and what comes attached to it that you seem to want to flaunt in your sig. I would like to hope that it's just not one of those "window dressing" titles?
As for the hardware. O.K. I'll try to explain one more time and then I'm done.
Your deductions have one common disadvantage. You don't have the service. I do. Would it help you that I have tried several combinations of hardware?
Once again, I do have the service and I have found that the Linksys switch works best.
The original poster was asking for a good switch with the Winfirst service. I as a common costumer of the winfirst service was merely posting what I have found to be a good recommendation.
You want to pitch the Netgear products?, Fine, I don't have a problem with that, but I do question your need to challenge my recommendation since (once again) I do use the same service.
Lastly. Just as an FYI. Using the Netgear router was a bust for me. I was not able to find a firmware setup that would hold my VPN connection past 5 minutes. Especially during times of inactivity.
Have a nice day-:) |

You never made that distinction. You were sounding like some of the people in the Networking forum who recommend Linksys all the time. I tend to tell people to avoid Linksys since in my years of IT work, we've had more problems with Linksys products in numerous areas. As well, I asked you to define clearly what you meant by the "good match" statement and you decided to start pulling unneeded details into the conversation instead of answering the question. It was clear you were grasping at straws when you started to go after my credentials. And as an FYI to you, its not a window dressing title. I've earned this position by spending years learning and mastering networking. Hard work earned me this job, so you are in the wrong for attacking my quals. Ands that's why I can make a fair assessment on which products are of a better quality than others. Its based on "tons" of experience and interaction with products. |

I agree with you on the netgear. Definitely more reliable and cost effective than Linksys. |
