to Hofbrau
Re: Messenger finally working with w98se One more ???I told you Hofbrau not to chime in with the "messenger doesn't use UPnP". My file transfer (this is the ONLY feature I was really interested in and this is the ONLY feature that I have tested) DID NOT work until I installed UPnP.
So I don't care at all how many times you keep on writing that MSN messenger doesn't use UPnP (in your earlier posts you said it doesn't use UPnP AT ALL, now you've toned it down to that it doesn't use it ONLY for file transfers) Everyone and their mother knows that it does......
So again, if anyone has responses to my other questions I'd really welcome them, otherwise take your wise repetitive boring (and WRONG) comments somewhere else (I've read all the messenger related posts and essentially I am SICK of Hofbrau and his stupid same old response) |

I know Hofbrau is knowledgeable about this stuff, and I don't know the technical stuff like he does.
All I know, is that file transfer has worked perfectly for me and everyone else I've enabled it on the operating system.
Every computer I have ever touched with a linksys router has began to use the file transfer function of Messenger as soon as I install it on the OS.
There is probably another reason for that, and I'm sure Hofbrau could explain, but I tell anyone that wants their file transfer to work that has newest firmware on router to simply install UPnP on Windows, and I always get a good response. [text was edited by author 2002-09-21 19:25:51] |

Just to make things more interesting I have a Linksys Network Everywhere NR041 router for which the latest firmware is 1.0 release 10. So quit advising me to download 1.42 or the alike.....
My Windows was a clean install just a couple of days ago and I have TCP/IP and NetBEUI protocols loaded as well as a single NIC hardware and Client for Microsoft Network and File and Printer Sharing Clients added.
My TCP/IP is not binded to any of the clients (Microsoft network or file sharing).
Since I've installed the Internet gateway by running Netsetup.exe from an XP CD my computer would lock up on its own if I don't touch it for an extended period of time I have any kind of "green" feature disabled (no HDD turn off, no monitor shut down, no screen saver).
Can anyone tell me what would cause that? No CTRL+ALT+DEL will work, the keyboard and the mouse are completely unresponsive, the only thing I can do is hit the reset button, and I really don't like doing that too much...... |
