Earthlink DSL → Earthlink connection hangs up

I have been using Earthlink DSL for a few months now. I have it connected to two PC's in my house. On the one running Win 98 w/ WinPoet, the connection seems to hang fairly often. By that, I mean that the PC is not sending or receiving any packets for a minute or two. All of a sudden, it comes back alive and works fine again. When working OK, the speed is fine. My other PC does not do this.

Any suggestions?

I have seen this problem alot it seems to have pretty much taken care of itself for a while for me. However,I have seen may posts here on these message boards as well as in alt.mindspring.adsl usenet newgroup. Some people mention that a possible remedy is to make sure your nic is aggigned a ip address but I dont think this is a fix. It is a strange problem that most people notice start happening to them only after they get dsl service. It doesn'y seem to matter which version of the ppoe software u are running also.
So I am sorry to say I don't kno what causes it, and I don't think anyone else does either. MS is aware of the problem but as of yet haven't offered a solution. Sorry I can'y help you.
