same crap!

i am experiencing the same crap that you went through! I was a happy camper with directv dsl until this one day, i stumped across speakeasy that offers a sys admin package 1500/768 for $99 bucks a month... couldnt resist signing up for that speed and price. decided to cancel my directv dsl and sign up for the sys admin package from speakeasy. 2 days later, i got an email from them saying that the there is fiber/copper crap running in the CO and that the fastest speed would be 144up/down. so i called them up and said, DA FREAK are you guys talking about! I have dsl from 3 different service provider for the last 4 years here at this address and my speed is 1200kb average down. a day later, got a call from a clown at speakeasy giving me another jackass bullshit that there is no circuit open at my CO for this package and recommends me to sign up for another service they offer through covad. 1500/384 for $89! I asked the clown, why would i pay that much, when i can sign up directly with covad and pay 69 a month!

My point here is that it seems like all their sales person and tech use the same bullshit supplied to them from their employer. You can never get a straight answer or have someone who can give the facts. DSL is not new technology, but it seems like it is for all these bozo's!

I'm in the process with Covad Telesoho dsl, i will keep everyone posted

Just Remember....

that by going with Covad directly...you are now "stuck" with the dreaded PPPoE monster!!!!!

And..I know...everyone says "I just handle PPPoE with my router"....this maybe true...but if their authentication servers are unreachable for any reason...you will be "dead in the water"...Not an "always on" connection in my mind...

Re: same crap!

I signed up with Covad as well for the Telesoho package as well. With in 2 days of signing up they already have set a date for the line to be connected ( less than 1 week ) and already have shipped me the modem, which should be here with in the next couple of days. As far as the PPPoE, the package I ordered is a static IP address, so how could it be PPPoE? Ill keep my fingers crossed and hope they know what they are doing.

It is a Static IP...with PPPoE....

Covad.net service does offer a static IP...but they also require PPPoE authentication...

Static IP's and PPPoE are not mutually exclusive items...
