Since the SPAM is sent out using comcast.net as the domain, some ISP's (AOL seems especially aggressive) then block all email from comcast.net. In my opinion, that is a drastic over reaction on their part, but they open things back up after Comcast hammers them for it. The theory is that Comcast should instantly pull off the air any of their customers that aren't running secure email servers. That is a nice theory but not very practical to embargo an entire domain for the actions of a couple stupid customers of that ISP.
--
"Golf and sex are about the only things you can enjoy without being good at it."

Of course, you can still use Yahoo free services, but then you must use their web mail interface to email messages.
FFH5 posted : A way to get around this problem is to use a free web mail account like hotmail (there are others as well) to SEND mail outbound instead of Comcast. That way Comcast is not the originator of the msg and the message is not subject to blocking based on the comcast.net domain name. But you can set up the hotmail account to list your comcast.net account as the "reply to" name and also as the originating email name. That way all replies go to your Comcast account. See the attached Outlook Express pictures to see how you set up Hotmail to do this. It works. I often use this method, especially when the Comcast domain name gets blocked by some ISP's.
--
"Golf and sex are about the only things you can enjoy without being good at it."
<TABLE WIDTH=96% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

madylarian posted : Has anyone had any problems sending email to AOL addresses? I have a small distribution list and the last thing I sent failed to go to the AOL addresses only. The fail message for all was:

Original-recipient: rfc822;XXXXX@aol.com
Final-recipient: rfc822;XXXXX@aol.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.4.4 (Illegal host/domain name found)
Remote-MTA: dns;mailin-04.mx.aol.com
(TCP|24.xxx.xx.xxx|39362|64.xx.xxx.xxx|25)
(The information presently available to AOL indicates that your server)

When I used the smtp server for my dial up account the mail seemed to go through just fine and I have not gotten any fail messages. I am not sure what this means but it looks like AOL doesn't want to talk to Comcast.

mady

[text was edited by author 2002-10-31 22:15:38]
