Turboz posted : [QUOTE]on the linux box, are you using -j DNAT --to-destination 10.x.x.x ?/]

No, I was running IPTABLES. I am not sure but isn't -j DNAT a IPCHAINS parm? But, anyway I did finally get my server recognized by the WON Master server and people can now play on my server. The strange thing is that I didn't do anything different. I finally just started showing up in the server lists. When I run an Unreal Tournament server they can see me now too. By the way I was running the Bastille Linux firewall and system hardening script on a seperate Linux machine I had set up as a router. I wound up buying a Linksys router (to cut down on my electric bill). And, my Linux router is semi-retired. But, I took it out of retirement for a test. And, people were still able to see my server even though I changed nothing. I still don't know what was wrong. I have been told that others have had this same experience. Go figure...

[QUOTE]Both the gateway and the device behind it have their own unique public IP addresses. Have you tried just connecting the server machine directly to the gateway?[QUOTE/]

Yes, I did try connection the server directly to the gateway. And, I did this with no firewall at all. At the time this didn't work either.

Turboz posted : I am running a dedicated server (HLDS.exe). Nothing else is running on that machine. Yes I can connect from the LAN side. In fact all of the computers on the LAN side can connect with no problem. The server is now running W98. Although the real server that I have set up will run Linux. I have also tested it on a dual processor NT machine. I have not tried forwarding a range of ports since I moved it from the Linux box. I will give that a try on the 'stripped down' W98 machine though. Thanks for the help.

fm5461d0 posted : With regards to the H/L port forwarding, are you forwarding only 27015? Try a range, i.e.- 27015-27025. Also, is this a dedicated machine/server? Can you connect to your server from the LAN side (using private IP address)? What OS is the server running?

Turboz posted : I have had friends try to add the server and enter my IP directly but they could not connect. I have run many different firewall/router configurations (Linux and Linksys). I tries forwarding port 27015 to the server machine using a linksys router (no other firewall running). I put 'ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' in the server.cfg. They still can't see the server. I believe DTVDSL when they say they don't block ports or molest packets. Presently I am only trying to run one HL server. I have tried to make it as simple a set up as I can. On thing that I have been wondering about is the DTVDSL gateway. I wonder if it could cause HL to have problems binding to the WAN (External Internet) IP? Do regular DSL modems still have their own IP? Could the fact that the gateway has it's own IP cause a binding problem? I am grasping at straws too. I have learned a lot about Linux routers/firewalls working on this problem so the time spent has not been a total loss. I appreciate you comments. You seem to be knowledgeable with regard to HL/TFC/CS servers.

fm5461d0 posted : I have at one point run HL/TFC, Q3A, UT, and UT2003 servers via DTV. I never used master server reporting, but port 27900 is the one most often used. Every so often it will change though. Can clients connect to your server even though it's not being advertised? Are you serving more than one HL/TFC/CS game? If so, the ports may need to be changed in the other game configs. The default port for HL is 27015. If using Win XP, turn off the built in firewall. I'm grabbing at straws here. If the game works on one internet connection, then it SHOULD work on others, but it's not. And as far as I know, DTV does not block ports.

Running a Half-Life/TFC/CS server with Directv DSL

Turboz posted : First of all I am really happy with Directv DSL. It works great. The technology is great. And, the service is great. My problem is that I can't seem to get my Half-Life server working correctly. Specifically, when I run the server no one can see it on the internet (Won Servers). I have tried Linux routers/firewalls, Linksys routers and a direct connection with no firewall at all. Everything else works fine email, web browseing, downloads, online gaming etc). When I take my computer over to a friends and hook it up to his DSL connection (another provider) it works with no changes to the server configuration or network settings. The same is true for a friends cable connection. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions?
