EarthSignal posted : Everything about this whole system seems to keep me paranoid lately,so it's probably just me.:)

This just a suggestion. Remove the surge protector for a while and attach to your wall connectors directly to see what happens. If you still have the problem it might be worth investing in some high quality cables to replace the ones in question. A pair of new cable don't cost that much and may solve the problem. The slightest defect in one of the connectors could be causing the problem and you may never be able to see the defect by eye. If your setup is like mine you have one set of cables to the protector and another pair to the modems. There is eight connectors and you only need one with intermittent connection.

Just don't get tx & rx cable mixed up when moving them around.
--
D'way SRS 4.0.3.9 - DAK 403-P5, G4R L.99 T. 1350MHz, Win XP Pro SP1

installguy posted : Another thing to add, is that most surge protectors come with cheap cables, to add from the surge protector, to the device being used. I have seen several of those cables cause problems. But i would agree with greg, and ditch the surge suppressor, unless it specifically states it will work with direcway two way systems.

David
--
DiRECWAY Dealer/Installer: Direcway SRS by DiRECTV G4R,1250 H : RSL 85 4.0.3

grohgreg posted : Your paranoia might just save your system. I don't doubt your installer sells a lot of those to DirecTV customers. But he's not only stretching the point to include DirecPC, he may be putting your equipment at hazard.

I'd get rid of it. If it came to a choice of that Fiskars, and nothing - I'd choose nothing. Search the forum for coaxial surge suppression topics.
DannyM8 posted : The brand is Fiskars, don't know the model. It also has Hughes printed on it. My installer sold it to me when he installed my system. I don't have the box handy but I remember it saying it works with DirecTV and DirecPC.So I'm sure it's fine. Like I said I'm probably just being paranoid about it. But it's hard not to be when it comes to this stuff.
--
950mhz AMD Athlon,448mb ram,Win XP Pro.Direcway 4.0.3.9,DAK403_P5,tweaked,proxy on,1mb cache,G4R 1370.

Coax cables

DannyM8 posted : Earlier today I was online doing various things. Browsing, downloading, email etc. The speed was pretty good for the time of day it was. Anyway, I needed to move some things around here in my studio(system is in my recording studio).I have all of the Dway stuff going through a surge protector and I had to move it to get to some other stuff I needed to move. So,after moving everything I needed to move, I got back online and the speed was awful. So I checked the surge protector to make sure I hadn't knocked anything loose or anything, and I hadn't.Everything seemed to be fine. So I get back online again and the speed is back. So this gets me wondering if it has anything to do with the coax cables plugged into the surge protector,so I go check the cables,I unscrewed them and they seem to be fine, the ends seem nice and tight and everything. So I get online again, and the speed is gone again. So,I go and play with the cables again, get back online and once again the speed is back. So I haven't touched it since. I've been online for awhile now and the speeds have been pretty good, they did drop off a couple of times but came back.Anyway, now I don't know if theres something wrong with one of the coax cables or if it was just a coincidence. Like I said the cables seemed to be fine. But I'm wondering if maybe the ground part of the wire that touches the inside of the end piece could have some kind of problem. Like maybe it's not touching all the time or something. Is that possible? If that was the case wouldn't I be losing signal strength as well? I checked my signal while I was moving the wires around and it didn't seem to affect it. But I still wonder about it. I'm probably just being paranoid about it but just wondered what you guys thought about it. Everything about this whole system seems to keep me paranoid lately,so it's probably just me.:)
--
950mhz AMD Athlon,448mb ram,Win XP Pro.Direcway 4.0.3.9,DAK403_P5,tweaked,proxy on,1mb cache,G4R 1370.
