sabersaw posted : I had RR about 6 years ago in columbus. They charged 10 bucks extra for second IP address, this was before the day of $40 cable/dsl routers. I am pretty sure that most of ohio charges for the extra ip. how did you get it from them for free? I have a router but would still like the extra ip just for hosting small webpage and to ssh to my linux machine. currently have 5 pc's both linux and Microsoft plus my ps2. no problems here just need to learn what applications require what ports and you are set.

anon posted : Hey not sure if they do it down there, But timewarner rr, charges for extra IP addresses. I tried to just set up a small network and it saw the modem and the hub, But not the computer. I did ipcfg and my comp didnt have a IP address. I called time warner and ask what if I wanted to setup a network, could I? the tech said yes, but you'll need extra IP address for the hub and both computers. they charge up here in Minn. $10 buck extra for 5 ip's. I changed from Qwest DSl mainly because when they went MSN I couldnt network at all unless I had a router.

well laters

sabersaw posted : I would turn on DHCP in the router... it will set your all your tcp/ip info for you on your workstation. Here is a thought though. some RR divisions associate your hardware address to the cable modem. if you plug in your computer directly to modem and it works, check settings on router. if they are all in good shape you may have to call your RR and just tell them that you got a new computer or a new network card. if this makes any sense? basicly the modem holds one device, and if you plug a different device into it you may have to call RR. It is different in all areas. I have woh.rr.com and you must call them if your hardware address changes on the client side of the cable modem.

Link200 posted : ok i got the packet to switch to RR from time warner. (cable one was bought out by them in my area). i currently have no internet mainly because of the software. they led me to believe that i had to instal the software in an email. i called the tech support and they told me i didnt have to use the software. now im part way through the software and i quit but it didnt delete anything, and every time i start my comp up it loads drivers like the instalation wasnt done. how can i stop this. the software also messed up my IE. it now crashes every time i start it up and i cant use the net.
