SYNACK posted : By default, everything is blocked that originates on the WAN, including netbios. If the firewall is enabled, and you don't specifically allow those, they will be blocked by the default policy.
In addition, if you are running M-1 NAT, they won't go to the LAN unless you specifically forward them, even if they are allowed in the firewall. The zywall itself does not run netbios services and would simply ignore them if you would allow them, but not forward them to the LAN.

jbibe posted : You want to disable NetBIOS filtering in both directions. In the latest version of the Z10 and Z10-II firmware, NetBIOS filtering has been added. Some users have experienced slow speeds. They turn NetBIOS filtering off and use either packet filters, or a special firewall rule to block outbound NetBIOS information. This solves the slow speed problems.

Why do you need a rule to block inbound NetBIOS? Or are you talking about outbound NetBIOS?

[text was edited by author 2002-12-15 17:37:57]

teng posted : Hi,
It seems that my 10II chokes my banwidth down to about 9kbp up and down stream. It would suddenly become svery slow and then when I go to Speakeasy's speed test, it would show about 6-9kbp up/dn. It would be cured after I reboot the zywall. I am on optimum online with content filtering turned on, rules to block 37-139 and some standard ports like snmp from the wan side. any ideas..thanks!
