[General] DSR SP-B Works!

After reading all the posts, and having some spare time, I figured I'd try it. Here's my optimal setup:
Host: PIII 256k ram, W2k Advanced Server, SP3, ICS, Proxy On
Clients - all W2k Pro, SP3, Proxy Off

Browsing is way better. Refresh rate is like a T1. FTP downloads very good.

speakeasy:
2002-12-15 21:44:59 EST: 854 / 22
Your download speed : 854561 bps, or 854 kbps.
A 104.3 KB/sec transfer rate.

So far, I really like it!

Hmm.. that's interesting...I saw a big improvement with Pack A, but none w/ Pack B..did you bypass A altogether? Congrats! And welcome to the forum!

No, I had been running A since it was released, and really was pretty happy with everything (If it's not broken, don't fix it--), but you know how we are, if there's a tweak that might work----

Good to know...I'm beginning to wonder if my B actually stuck..several DRS users report snappier browsing, and I only see this early(2-3am) in the mornings now. Time to tweak again.

Some folks HAVE reported that it "didn't stick". Check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hughes Network Systems\DirecPC and make sure it says DAK403_P8 (and an installation date/time) on the Service Pack line

don't feel bad. SP-A actually made my browsing worse. I had enough after a week, and removed it. Ran the straight 4039 till SP-B came out.

This time I did see one improvement - snappier browsing. No improvement in throughput speed though. One problem that still needs more work, is making all those extra connections actually connect. I still have to hit the refresh button quite often to "fill in the little red X's"

It still amazes me how we can all have different results. Blame it on Hughes? Naw, there are so many combos of MOBO's chipsets, modems, etc.

Been on SPB now for the whole day, and becoming a believer. My daughter just came to me and said "Gee Dad, what did you do - my computer is really smokin."

So it's not just my wishful thinking - it does make browsing faster for us poor DSR folk.

I keep my computer pretty well tweaked and follow our forum's recommendations. Had patch A installed but browsing was not so impressive and upload speeds horrible. Downloaded patch B and it took me FIVE tries until I succeeded in installing it. Browsing got worse, could not get on the internet with proxy ON, and it messed up my whole system. After an hour with DirecWay tech support, I gave up and restored my system back to the point before downloading Patch B. Now I am on Patch A only but I did notice that browsing has improved as of late, the "Engineers" must have done something. The lesson I have learned after wasting many valuable hours, NO SERVICE PATCH "B" for me.

My browsing seems much snappier with SP-B than before AND, for the first time, my Mac client gets virtually identical speed test results on wdc.speakeasy and bandwidthplace as my host machine. I'm very pleased with the apparent performance enhancements. Now, If I could only stay connected...

I also have this problem and so does jimrev... If you right click on an "X" and select "Show Picture", sometimes all of the the missing pics come up , sometimes they don't. It doesn't seem like the whole page refreshes though. I mean, the page does not "flash".
