[General] Secure pages slow loading - Also no Pics

Okay, hopefully this is pretty simple stuff. Running 4.0.3.9-B on WinXP Pro, proxy on (DW moans too much if it isn't on), IE6, DrTCP, etc. HTTP1 is set to work through proxy settings.

Secure web pages load painfully slow (especially initially) and generally do not load images with the page. Refreshing the page doesn't bring the pics up, either. The only way to get them to load is to right-click on them and load them that way. Normal pages and pics load fine, and I couldn't find any settings in IE6 that said anything about loading secure pages different than regular pages.

Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? What should I be looking for?

Thanks!

First of all, HTTP1.1 should not be enabled on proxy connections on IE. Also make sure that in IE under Tools->Internet Options->Connections->Lan Settings->Advanced that you have proxy server settings for HTTP only. All other protocols, including "Secure" should be blank.

PetDude, on the internet options in advanced just curious if both HTTP 1.1 settings should be unchecked, the first one is checked, the second one has never been checked.

I have both HTTP 1.1 and HTTP 1.1 on Proxy unchecked. It has been my experience that HTTPS connections tend to be slow.

Both unchecked here...checking either or both creates problems browsing and doesn't improve loading secure sites.

I unchecked the first one(second one has never been checked) but didn't notice anything different about secure sites, might have to try other secure sites rather then my online banking they have always ran a little slow, time will tell.

PD - Thanks for the info. The proxy settings are all blank except for HTTP and I have now unchecked both HTTP1 settings. We'll see how it goes.

Okay, with the HTTP through proxy disabled, secure pages now load much faster. However, I still have problems with secure page images not loading most of the time. This is a bit of a PITA when on-line shopping, for example, because most of the "continue" buttons, etc., are image files. The only way to get them to load is to right-click on them and click "show image". Refreshing the page only works on occasion to load the images. Standard pages load fine with all images.

Any thoughts?

Try holding down the Ctrl key when you click refresh. This forces most proxy servers to send you a refresh from the site instead of from cache.

Here's a tip for the shopping issues, (or issues where you will know where the button or pic will be b4 it loads, you will be able to click on it b4 it loads with this) go to IE Tools, advanced, go to the multimedia menu, and check the box Show image download placeholders, it sped up my sat browsing significantly, b/c I knew where the buttons/pics were, and it let me click them on b4 loading fully.
