ChrisXP posted : This is my take on the photo.

I used the eye color examples and actually superimposed their own eyes onto to portrait (a lot of cut, resize, paste, erase and blending involved -- one reason I like ImageStyler is because I can resize the images "on the fly", and get exact sizes). This way the eyes are actually their own, not our idea how they look behind the red-eye distortion.

Since I read you like the lint removed it's also off the green sweater.

Color corrected the photo to eliminated the incandescent yellow glow, so now the millwork and the white bands on the standing boy's sweater actually look white. Color enhanced the photo to restore some flesh color, and liven up the fire.

Take a close look (and I mean magnify the photo) and see how the eyes fair with you.

Had to compress the photo to upload it.
Hope you like it. :)

CXP
--
"It's not what you see that's suspect, but how you interpret what you see." ~~~ Isaac Asimov
<TABLE WIDTH=96% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

cookeys posted : IMO, the last pic, with one exception. the pupils on the kid on the bottom don't look right to me. They don't look round, thy sort of look oval. Maybe I'm just seeing things though.

I'm by no means an expert at redeye removal, but I almost always use the blur tool to blur around the pupil a bit after changing the colors of the pupils. It removes any rough edges.

Edit: Oh, and I feel that I should say that the majority of my red eye removal experience is with cats, not people. Unless you consider cats to be furry little people, like I do... ;)
[text was edited by author 2002-12-23 17:05:44]

Searchname posted : The third pic has been fixed, Bellsouth doesn't like long file names. At any rate, I pulled 8x10's off the walls to fix the eyes. They aren't perfect, but pretty good IMHO. The one thing they lack is the black is dull, doesn't have the glossy eye look. I think this will be fine on the 5x7's, but I'm worried about the 8x10's.

Thanks for the replies!

ChrisXP posted : For some reason I feel propelled to answer this. ;)

The 3rd photo doesn't show.

The 2nd photo doesn't look real, so hopefully the Gaussian blur helped.

In situations like this I tend to manually edit the pupil and use a soften brush (usually at 10%) to soften the edges so it will blend into the iris. On smaller photos the rods of the eye won't be missed. On a photo where it can be seen, it's much more difficult.

PSP 7 has a feature to remove the red-eye, but it's color coded and doesn't match the original eye color. For realism manual editing is essential.

CXP
--
"It's not what you see that's suspect, but how you interpret what you see." ~~~ Isaac Asimov

Joey B posted : Not having seen the kid's eyes, I say the PSP job is nice. As for the third.. seems it's not uploaded or is linked wrong.

Only issue iI can see is that with psp, the redeye fixer uses a "preset" eye in replacing the color right? How close is the match to the actual eye?
Searchname posted : I took about 50 pictures with my Canon G2 and finally made a selection. We will give this picture to relatives. I used the G2's built in Flash and the pics now have Red Eye. In the future, I will use an attachable flash, but that doesn't help me now. At any rate, I have three pics for you to look at. I plan on taking one of these to Wolf Camera and have several 5x7's made and a few 8x10's. The file sizes are around 700KB, so I will simply link to my Bellsouth "personal web space". Thanks guys!

This is the Original Photo. It was taken w/ a Canon G2 in JPG format at the highest settings. The Aperture was set at 100 to give the fire a somewhat blurry effect. We tried a lower aperture setting but the kids couldn't be still enough and they ended up blurry themselves. ;)

With this picture I used Photoshop 7 to remove the Red Eye and also remove the points of lights in the eyes that was caused by additional lighting in the room. I tried using Photoshop Elements "Red Eye Tool", but it just made their eyes Grey. So, I used Photoshop 7's "Elliptical Marquee Tool" to select the entire eye, remove the red and then use it again to select the pupil and turn it blackish.

This is the same picture as the "Red Eye Removed" picture (above), but this one has had a softening effect applied. Here, I applied Gaussian Blur (4 pixels). Then, I faded the Gaussian Blur opacity to about 25%. Next, I played around with the "Unsharp Mask" settings, I believe I used (Amount=100, Radius=4, Threshold=10). Finally, I changed the Hue "Saturation" to +10.

I basically want to know which you would choose out of the 2nd and 3rd. I included the first, for comparisons sake and for you to toy with in case I royally screwed it up. Thanks for the help!

PS - Here is the Actual Original Photo, be warned ... it is large (2.04 MB).
[text was edited by author 2002-12-23 15:55:06]
