CPU Temp?

I was just wondering what is a normal temp for a P4 CPU? I have a 2.4GHZ and its runs at about 44C. Is this normal?

idle, or full load, that is fine....not near burning up
my xp1700 is about 47*C idle, and 54*C under a full load and no probs...

Intels idle in mid 30 range so 44 is a bit high

Won't a p4 automatically slow itself down if it gets too hot?

Same here. I have an XP 1700+ and I have the exact same temps as you. Everything is stable.

My Pentium4 2.4B runs at these temps at idle in a 75 degree Fahrenheit room temp. Thats with a lapped Volcano 7+ running maxium speed.

Pentium4 run warmer and it also depends on your motherboard.

Run warmer than what?
I hope you aren't talking about an AMD processor. (especially palomino)

The Intel CPU temp is not as important as the CPU INTAKE temp as measured 1cm above the center of the CPU fan intake. The max 'recommended' intake temp is 40C for the stock heatsink. (or other heatsinks that provide equal or better protection) If you manage the intake temperature properly, then the resulting CPU temp will always be in the acceptable range as long as the heat sink/fan is operating properly.

A 40C CPU idle temp and a 50C CPU load temp are not uncommon for the P4.
