Re: [SRS] Why the 40 sec browsing pauses every 10 mins?If it is a gateway issue it is internal to Hughes because I notice it when I'm retreiving messages from email and news groups. Yes, it is about 40 seconds about every 10-15 minutes for me too. I am on G4R 1230 and have the x.66 gateway as well.
The wierd thing is that when it stalls, I can usually still ping shiva.direcpc.com. Makes no sense. |

LongToneZero, Was experimenting with pings to shiva.direcpc.com. Pings fine until the delay. When a delay is detected and I do a ping to shiva.direcpc.com, it just hangs too until the delay frees. Then I get "unknown host shiva.direcpc.com". Thus, I never get to domain server, or it times out. I will set up pings for 198.77.116.45 instead of name. |

ping to 198.77.116.45 during the hang gets continuous "Request timed out" until the delay ends. Didn't take long to test -- 10 minutes from last hang I would estimate. I believe I tried a tracert during the hang before and ended up with nothing. Will try this with this address. |

@tpanc13:
You are right. I think my observation was just because I was reacting to the traffic loss, and it was clear by the time I got a dos window open and ping started.
I also cannot resolve dns during hang.
OK, What we need to do now, I guess, is start keeping timestamped logs and see if we are all losing connectivity at the same time. Just a thought...

1/5/03: Delays at 10:25, 10:36, & 10:51 p.m. eastern time.
I just happened to hit the phl.speakeasy.net speed test at 10:51. Results were 1 kbps download and 29 kbps upload. ha-ha. First time I went over 17kbps upload since installation! At 10:49 I also did a speedtest there: 890kbps/17kbps (this may be first time under 1000kbps download, except for the delay time of course). At 10:58 speedtest was 1492kbps/14kbps.
11:02 p.m. Another delay, "request timed out" on pings until relieved
Interesting...I did continuous pinging to DNS anticipating a delay, and never got another since 11:02 til now 11:31. Gee, maybe that's the solution. |
