This is the biggest BBRism ever. Someone always brings this up. I'm not saying it isn't true, and it isn't annoying, but it's funny how mad this makes so many people.

isn't it interesting every time that horse is drug out, no mention is ever made of those countries' governments subsidizing those services either.

I find it interesting the anti-telco and anti-cable slant this site has at times - two industries for without whom this site would not exist and everyone would be stuck on AOL or Prodigy dial-up. It's as if people here think the telco's and cable companies came up with broadband just to make our lives miserable.

Agreed. Maybe it's like some married people. They couldn't live without their spouse, but they always complain about him or her.

I don't know enough about foreign markets and monopolies to comment on subsidies or conditions, but I do know that it's not safe to compare those conditions to the ones in the US. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I might comment.
