Cogeco → Accessing Samsung Modem Status

My problem in an earlier thread was quickly solved by cogeco's technician reading the stats and status from my samsung modem.

Over the years that i've been a subscriber there have been a number of times where having read access to this information would have answered many a ponder from this tech weenie. More information is always better for those of us who hate to call tech support unless its absolutely necessary.

Are there snmp traps or a web interface to this information that can be shared?

If you get an RCA modem then you can use the internal webpage to view line signal quality and other things.
Other then that not really anything else that I know of.

The Samsung (AFAIK) don't have an internal webpage to view this stuff. The information on there, while being accurate, will differ (slightly) from the readings the tech would get from a high end Fluke meter. I would agree about your statement about more info, problem being that more info sometimes makes a person dangerous. Make sure you do some homework on what the values actually mean before jumping to conclusions.

I'm dangerous with or without information I have managed to learn a thing or two in over the 15 years of networking experience and years as an IT manager and consultant.

Tis funny how many people don't understand the difference between theory and reality in our field. Yes ... it may be a 2mbit connection, but there are always overhead and "factors" (including the elusive bunnies running along the cable) that will affect performance.

So, no web page on the samsung... does anyone know if there is there a snmp community that i can read stats from or other way to easily access the status?

The internal IP space isn't directly accessable to (most) cable modem CPEs anymore anyway...

Most....but either way the actual string isn't public domain anyway

It definitely used to be nice when I could access this information .. But about all I ever saw was that my TX level was way too high and the modem log was constantly filled up with 'Loss of sync!' and 'Unable to locate upstream channel' and all sorts of bad things like that.. LOL - Now that it's been working fine since the spring, i'm set and I don't need that info anymore.

I'm not a tech (but if you guys would tell me where to send an app???) but if I were...you'd have to do a LOT better than Timmies java...and Tim's is my second home

Well like I said, i don't go to Tim's that much but now that it's so close and convenient i have a feeling i'm going to pay someone's way through college soon
