How fast is your new DSL service compared to DTV?I switched from DTV to Cyberonics.
My speeds for DTV was:
Download: 1200-1300 Upload : 90-105
With Cyberonics, I'm getting:
Download: 1100-1250 Upload : 600-650
I live in Santa Cruz (Area code 95062) What are your speeds? The uploads are noticeably faster! I'd be interested in what speeds you're getting with cable, earthlink, and sbc.
I have a friend with SBC and is only getting around 384/128 (palo alto). Gary |

I was getting 1297/109 with Directv.
I am getting 1158/624 with Cyberonic.
I really like the upload speed increase, but mourn the loss of 140kbps on my download side. I give the service a couple of weeks to get caught up with new customers before I start trying to get them to bring me back to 1300kbps download. |

I'm experiencing a slight improvement in connection speed since switching to DSLi.
My average test results to lax.speakeasy.net is 1219/231 kbps Results from mia.speakeasy.net average 1247/221 kbps
It's approximately 10-20 kbps faster than my DirecTV averages testing from the same POP's.
Since DSLi recently switched their backbone last week latency has dramatically improved, so much it's barely measurable in some cases. I'm getting 10ms/20ms responses to game servers whereas with DirecTV it was 34ms/40ms.
Probably the greatest improvement I've seen since changing ISP's is DSLi's news service which is outsourced. Unfettered continuous 1270kbps download with 94% completion rates and better than 30 day retention on binaries. That's correct 30 days on binaries in many cases. I was downloading some Jazz MP3's last evening that were posted a month ago.
Couldn't be happier! |

Re: How fast is your new DSL service compared to DWith DTV 1500/128 service (on SBC), I was getting 1200/90. Dedicated line, no phone filters.
With Sonic 1500/128 (on SBC), I'm getting 1000/135! This is on a different line, however, and I have four phone filters on the line. |

I switched to Sonic; the speeds are exactly the same, but Sonic feels snappier for things like web pages, interactive newsgroups, and email. I think it's due to lower latency and more capacity. And of course, email answers from support are infinitely faster, since DTV never answered email in all the time I was there. |

Yeah, I forgot to mention my pings are way down... said by emjayef4: And of course, email answers from support are infinitely faster, since DTV never answered email in all the time I was there.
They answered mail from me, but just to tell me to call the number! At Sonic, I correspond with the President of the company, who seems to be online all the time. And Sonic is sending me another modem to try to see if we can fix some of the problems I'm having. |

Im with DSLi and am seeing an incredible difference. With DTV, originally I was getting approx 1220/200. After a problem with Bellsouth which involved a DTV reprovisioning, I was then getting 900/170 which DTV said they could not help me with. After switching to DSLi, I am getting 1245/220. Slightly higher than my original speed tests. |

DTV DL 640kb/s UL 80kb/s
ATTBI/Comcast DL 1760kb/s UL 250kb/s
So far I've had about a 3X improvement in speeds over DTVDSL and they have been stable for the past month. |

FYI if your using the DSLR speed test results for DTV uploads they were generally reported at about half of what the actual speed was |

Re: How fast is your new DSL service compared to DActual experience. The last several months I would get UL tests of around 100, however actual uploads would get reported as 21 or so KB/s which is the 200-210kbs I was actually getting (timing them also proved the same). |

It's been pointed out in this forum before. DTV's gateway and the way service was setup(5 IP's)the speedtest program used here or the ones like it (speakeasy, same program)didn't report uploads correctly. If you are still on DTV compare results with some other test sites: » dcp1.bbq.epoch.net/final.html» www.pcpitstop.com/intern ··· Test.aspor use ftp and time it |

A few things. Firstly the troubles began with a change to the speed test applet. The old version that had the Verbose checkbox did not have trouble reporting DTV's upstream speed. For a while the older versions were still available on the Speakeasy test sites, while the new ones were here. As soon as the Speakeasy tests lost the Verbose checkbox, the upstream speeds became roughly half of what they were before. And more importantly, I FTP'd large database updates accross the country on a regular basis, and was always getting 17KB/sec (135kbps), despite a consistent showing of 65 or so on most speed tests here (80 on Megapath). The issue could be "resolved" by turning off Path MTU discovery. You'd then get speed results of 120 or so. The 120 was accurate - your transfers would actually be slowing from 135 to 120. But the tester app liked it better for some reason. People with other ISPs have also had problems, but it seemed to primarily center around DTV customers. The issue was brought up to Justin but he didn't seem to want to fix it. No big deal, it's just a speed test anyway. -- Rob |

When I first signed up with GTE, I was told my line was capable of their fastet service (platinum, I think they called it), but because of price, I chose the bronze 768/128 and I was happy. DTV told me I was able to get the 1500/128 package, so I switched. But they appeared to cap me at 860/128. 2 months later and now I am on Rapid Systems, who told me I could get up to 7.1meg/768, I took the 1500/126 at 49.99. I have not seen an appreciable difference in speed since the day I started using dsl. My speed tests average around 640/110. I have an email to RS questioning this, but so far, no reply. Don't get me wrong however, I am very pleased with RS so far, but if my line is incapable of faster download bandwidth, I wish someone would tell me.:[ |

On Rapid Systems downloads are at least 10% of what DTV was but can be as much as 90%. However, I'm hopeful it will improve. Upload is fine. |

I didn't realize that's when it happened, but my speed tests started becoming inaccurate about that time. I think I was on BSFA when they started getting screwy and it continued with the DTV modem. I know I've got good speeds because I measure it with Net per Sec. Interesting, because I never realized why the sudden change. |

NetPerSec is a great program. DTV had a perfectly flat 1.3 Mbps graph on downloads. |

I dont mind the upload decrease (I did all my sped tests on DSLR, so my actual upload with dtv was around 120-130), but for the same price, the download speed is awesome!!! |
