Sprint PCS Vision Connect Speeds?

I've been using Sprint PCS wireless web connected to my laptop for a slow 14.4 connection just about anywhere, but it works for the basics. Apparently the new PCS vision is much faster, but does anyone know the connect speed?

The max is somewhere around 128kbps, but I usually get around 60-70kbps. It's just a bit faster than a dial-up modem.

Not sure what speeds does one get on the phone..but it felt like regular modem speed for me.

The phone usually feel really slow, but most of that is processing time.
I wish they would work on speeding that up, I think it would really help improve the whole "vision" experience.

Just think how much more money sprint could make if they could figure out how to do broadband over Cellular (pending FCC of course). I was using my regular wireless web while riding in a car through death valley the other day. Gave me plenty of time to catch up on my e-mail.

I have seen from low of about ~60ish kbps almost all the way to the 144kbps limit(~15KB/sec) for me in Chicago area Naperville suburbs it seem to average ~90kbps, however the problem isnt really speed but to stay connected. while the connection would stay connected, if I don't have soemthing transmitting every minute or 2 the connection seem to just goto sleep and not wake up when I use it again. duno if its something with the phone(4900) or the PCS connection manager software.

A friend of mine uses his for work... he's a trucker. Depending on the signal strength, he can get about ~100kbps. He hooks it up to his laptop via USB link, but the link dies if the connection is idle for ~30 seconds. He solved this by running a constant "ping -t dslreports.com"

A good alternative is to run aim and have it check your mail servers every mintue. "Accidently" left mine going for an hour w/out a disconnect.

I thought AIM is not ready for Vision yet.

I don;t think they would make THAT much money,
but in a couple of years, they'll have to offer it in order to stay competitive. Do a search for "ubiquitel" (sprint affiliate) and "monet" These companies are trialing or offering "cdma 2000 EV-DO". Speeds in excess of T1 are possible.
Trouble is, sprint can;t even do cdma 2000 1x correctly yet.

I don't think it's supposed to be used as traditional wireless broadband.

It's still in development - I imagine much more can be expected soon.

That's EXACTLY what Monet is selling it for, except you get to move around too! Average 500 Mb/s, $40 per month!
Desktop docker for the PCMCIA card is available.

What's the rub? $200 worth of CPE, it only runs on Windows systems, and you gotta live in Duluth or Fargo.

If it was available here, I'd have it in a heartbeat.
I am currently using Verizon Wireless for my everyday,
and the best I can say is that it beats my dialup.

It should be 500 kilobits/sec (maximum peak of 2.4 megabits/sec).

the phone disconnects when not transmitting data by design, when you need to connect it will redial automatically. if you have to stay on constantly then try a:

ping -t -l 1 www.whatever.com

this will keep alive and only send 1 byte packets so not using alot of bandwidth.
