Vonage FAQ needed

Hey guys I just spent about 10 mins trying to find a link that described all the calling features and how to use them.
Well I found one here in one link and one in another. We need One FAQ that has all the info and have it at the beginging of the forum and locked down.

In the meantime can someone IM me the fix to fax on vonage please. Thanks

Here is the link to Vonage's FAQ pages...

Here is the link to "The Unofficial Vonage FAQ". I believe it belongs to Juan.

»vonage.j-zone.com/faq/

This is from that site. »vonage.j-zone.com/faq/Xc ··· sp?ID=96
quote:
This tip improves your sending of faxes to a very high level.

A Dial #99 before sending the fax.

This will put your ATA into fax only mode.

E.g. faxing to 345 555 5555 you dial #99 345 555 5555 and the fax should go through like a charm.

I just noticed in that faq it doesn't mention dialing one. Did you do a full 11 number dial? 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx?

I dont know that this will help but the ATA does 2 types of faxing , fax passthrough or straight fax to fax mode.

"FAX passthrough; In this mode, the Cisco ATA 186 can detect a FAX tone, after which it will turn off FAX tone detection and silence suppression and switch its operating codec to G.711-u or -a."

This must also be configured at the gateways.

"G.711 FAX mode;In this mode, the Cisco ATA 186 simply passes the RTP packets sent between the end FAX machines without any intervention. It treats the FAX session like any normal voice call."

This is what happens when you dial *99, then the ata goes back into regular mode on the next call.

Cisco says that 9600 is as fast as the ata can negotiate when connected to a fax.

interesting, I have seen that before but my fax svr on the other end can go all the way down to 2400 auto btw, but I even tried as a normal VC and it got halfway and died so I guess I'm going to need to call HD about it and see what they have to say. Thanks alot guys for the help.

There was a post in the archive that suggested some older ATA-186's were incapable of faxing. Can't find it right now, but that might be of interest if yours fits the description.

If you want a single FAQ with all the info, you can always create one on this site and do it...

KC - good call.

If the bottom of your ATA has a sticker on it that says ATA-186-I1 then you have a new box that supports faxing; if there is no tag, then you have the older box (or a torn off tag! ) and that box will not support reliable faxing, pretty much whatever you try.

mb - true.
I obviously feel that a FAQ is needed as well.
So »dial247.com/faq/ was born

The main reason I chose to do an offsite FAQ is that [certain items cannot be discussed here].

1.
I respond to a number of questions on that topic - the two most regularly asked are on the FAQ.

2.
I still feel (unlike some on this board) that promoting that program helps new VoIP (read Vonage) users just as much as it helps those of us promoting the offer.

I would hate to think that there was a $40 discount coupon for Amazon that no one would tell me about because they would save $40 on Amazon too! Anyway - I won't take this OT anymore - just my $0.02)

If you can't discuss it, don't discuss it please.
That's in regard to the post above, which contained a little too much detail.
Moving along now ...

Thats the website I was looking for whoohooo thanks
AJ. And yes I agree as well on the other. However the "other" seemed to get way out of hand here so I can understand why it was stopped.
