Tweaking SETI

I have read a few posts where people have suggestions for changing memory settings in the BIOS to speed up SETI. I have not changed anything but decided to take a look at my BIOS. I found one setting that I wanted to ask about.

Enable or Disable ECC Support for Processor L2 Cache. What should I do with this setting? It came disabled, but it looked interesting so I decided to post and see what others know about it. Thanks for any ideas.

If i am not mistaken, ecc is error checking and some mb's dont support it, my old one didn't. shouldn't make much of a diff with seti.

ECC, is for error correction in the memory. This option should only be enabled if you know for sure that you have ECC memory. If you didn't buy a server, specify that when you purchased your computer, or didn't buy ECC memory when you built your system do NOT enable this! If you did one of the these things listed above, sure go ahead. I doubt that it will improve performance.

Thanks for the responses, and I am not going to enable it. I was just kind of wondering what it did. Now I know what ECC means. Thanks again!
