Going out of business...the best thing for CharterI am paying $110.00 per month for dynamic IP that delivers this performance. Charter says there is nothing wrong with it (I guess they mean if you compare it to a $9.95/month dial up). My computer is optimized, 1.3 gig Pentium 4 and plenty of performance. I have called Charter so many times I have wore the buttons off of the phone.. driven to their office so many times I have worn out a set of tires.

The best thing Charter can do at this point is go out of business... they would be doing all of us a favor! I am still praying for SBC DSL to become available at my office. |

Re: Going out of business...the best thing for ChaIm paying 150/mth for service and agree it would solve all my problems if there were an alternative to charter. Unfortunatly DirectvDSL went out of business left me out in the cold, and didnt even consider a rate hike. |

also your $110.00 per month has to include your TV cable bill also...Charter has no plans that are close to that price and CBN accounts are way over that price. |

I was considering charter business, but only for better then what I have now. You claim you are paying $110 a month for such low speeds, when charter business would tell you to get their regular cable service for less if you don't opt for a package thats better. At least thats what they told me. They told me unless I wanted something over 1500/256 to just stick with residential service, even for business. And I am only paying $60 a month for that, with 100 channels of cable tv too, so you have no one to blame for this but yourself, or your company who obviously doesn't posses the ability to dial a phone and ask a question. Would have saved you all this trouble. My speed for charter = 1890/316, last time I checked, about an hour ago. |

They wont let me have residential service. I used to have residential service, and they raised my bill from $50.000 per month to $110.00 per month and told me I couldn't have residential service anymore.
You missing the point.. this company is run by crooks. They are out to steel and F*%K everyone out of as much money as they can. Morality, ethics and honesty has no place at Charter. They operate without a moral compass of any kind. This is not the only issue I have had with this company.. they are constantly pulling something. |

They started out providing me with a modem, but after a few months they raised my bill $10.00 per month and told me it was my monthly fee for the modem, so I went out and bought my own. I used to have two charter accounts, but I was lucky enough to get DSL at my home. When I got DSL, my speed went up about 12 times faster on DSL and my bill went down $10.00 per month. I love my DSL connection. I would love to get Charter out of my life. It seems like they just sit around and try to think up ways to run all of their customers off. Charter is a very unpopular company here. Everyone hates them. |

Is DSL available at your office? If so then get DSL there also, if not then look around at other companies, charter cannot be your only option there. |

No, but if it comes available, I will switch in the first 5 seconds I know about it. They just installed a new RT 1 mile from my office, but they do not have any DSL equipment installed in it yet. I have helped a lot of my friends and acquaintances get off of Charter and all of them are happy. All of them got better service. |

Re: Going out of business...the best thing for ChaREdOG,
If you had DSL with DirectvDSL, then someone else has probably taken over their DSLAMS at your C.O.. Look around to see if anyone else offers service in your area. |

It perplexes me how frequently people use the argument that "businesses are greedy". Of course they are.
The only way you're going to get acceptable service for acceptable prices is to have competition. In many areas, you're not going to have competition in service until you allow competitors to use the physical infrastructure that the "incumbent provider" has - in other words, Charter should be required to permit competing network service providers use their physical cable.
There are investment compensation issues, of course; but they could be worked out. The requirement wouldn't be necessary everywhere, and it wouldn't have to be permanent - it could be phased out once viable competition emerges across other transports.
I wonder if there is a map/graph anywhere that displays broadband competition regionally, capturing the number of subscribers affected, the level of competition (pricing and available bandwidth), etc.
If there were competitors in my area, I'm convinced I wouldn't have received the treatment I did when Charter torched their SO-HO accounts. I'm going to be pissed off forever over that. |

You know - I bet that information could be roughly approximated combining census data with data available through BBR! |
