I'm in the Hartford, CT market. I was supposed to lose service Feb. 28, but my email from Rhythms still works(I'm on @home cable now). I should plug in my dsl modem and see if it still works, it would be funny as hell if they forgot to turn my CO off(it would be a good backup connection). So far, the cable service rocks; but it's still new in my area so that will most likely change(Preying nobody else signs up on my node ;) )

And as for the node situation, if you go for @Home through anyone other than Cox in CT, I would pray hard. I've worked for most of the others who partner with @Home and they are almost always behind in dealing with node loads. I used their web based email from a dialup account to send them email describing the problem and giving them all my info (name, address, emails, islaci#, type of router, etc.). Amy called me the next morning. Other than at the point of sale to MegaPath, they have always called me in return to emails and/or FAXes.

In my case, Amy called Rhythms and they told her. She called me back. I don't know anything about this general outage except what I've read on the main page. WHen I see it's over I'll see if I can ping any IPs at my CO just to test it out, but in the meantime I assume the line is permenantly dead in my case. I actually got thru to someone in Phoenix using the helpdesk email address and they wrote right back. (surprise)

According to Phoenix there is a Rhythms northeast outage and Rhythms and MCI are working on it.

BTW- I too have also spoke to Amy at phoenix and she is very helpful.

Btw, the Telocity guy was very thorough in what and how would happen but it sounds like the weeks wait has to do with Verizon coming out and installing a new pair. You'd think they could just switch the thing over but apparently not. Weird. I didn't bother asking anyone what happens with the existing wire. In looking around, I don't have many choices at all left for residential services. In a market of around 1.3 million that seems an odd thing to say but it's true.

I'm actually glad Telocity was able to do this at no cost because my only other short-term alternative would be to go back to cable which I really don't want to do. Adelphia added two DS-3 lines here just recently to improve service but that won't last long given how they oversell - and I suspect they only really did it since the TV consumer reporters have been on their case. Yea, always liked dealing with her, whenever I had a problem. Very easy to work with and does seem to care. Always went that extra step to get a problem resolve. If at all possible. Wish that there where more like her around.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Do have to wonder though, which one of these companies is the most fouled up. :-) And that would also explain their dismal financial state. They are shutting down Albany too. Amy said that apparently Rhythms are losing big money at some of these COs, for whatever reason.

Oh, well. At least now I know despite the inconvenience what will happen.

Unless they are having more problems with the ILECS there than in other areas.
