Got my Mandrake 9.0 installed but Display goofy!!!

OK got my Mandrake 9.0 installed and updated on my Compaq EVO D310 but display/Monitor acting up on me.

Pic added if that helps any.

I have attempted to fix it with the Mandrake Control Center no go! Have tried the XF86Config route, no go!

I've done a forum search here and on Google and tried some various other cli inputs of the XF86Config with no avail.

Any ideas folks what is going on?
Video card in a intergrated Intel 845 Extreme APG, I know MOBO onboard???, got this sys at a very low price though , and a Compaq TFT 1501 flat panel monitor.

If you can't make out that message it says...

OUT OF RANGE
SET MONITOR TO:
1024 X 768 @ 75hZ

It's at 1024 x 768
But stuck at 60Hz

Thanks for any and all help. I'll be back later to see whick guru has the answer

Re: Got my Mandrake 9.0 installed but Display goof

Was this a DDC problem monitor that Mandrake look at install, or did you choose it from a list?

If you can run:

xvidtune -list

That would be great too

(btw, you can use xvidtune -next to cycle through modes.)

Changes the resolution but not the Freq. Still stuck at 60Hz

I even tried doing a full erase and fresh new install just in case I made a booboo.

Nope all still there and message still dancing around my monitor.

The HorizSync and VertRefresh in /etc/X11/XF86Config all match that of your monitor? Check your monitor's user manual just to be sure.

Says " command not found "

Now a second problem

Rebooted after all the updates and now it's asking for a localhost login $ password I don't have a clue what that is. Root, KDE or what?

urkkk I'm a bit lost with Mandrake, I'm a Red Hat User. In Red Hat there is a little tool I can use to select the frequency to use, per resolution.

Cranking down the resolution between 800x600, and 1600x1400 - all of them use 60hz? It seems as though it could not probe the monitor, and is in "Safe Mode".

Let me go to the Mandrake site and see if there are any peculiarities associated with thier x config.

Yea this has me confused it is a LCD TFT Flat Panel Monitor but fully Plug and Play.

Now if I can just get this localhost login thing figured out so I can get back to trying to figure this out along the way too. LOL

I dunno anymore. Maybe your video card sucks.

Do a search on the MDK site for your video card

Did you try ctrl-alt-- and ctrl-alt-+? (Minus and plus at the end there.)

Post your /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.

Post your /var/log/XFree86.0.log. (Or XFree86.n.log where n is some number. Post the newest log file.)

I agree this makes no sense since the system is sold with Mandrake 8.2 (site show $554 for basic box around $100 more for 15" monitor)
Sorry can't help you but my experiances with Compaq and Linux have'nt been nice.
Did you get it new?
If so did you get the free scanner they're offering now?

Mike Vid card there. »www.mandrakelinux.com/en ··· F_ID=296

Eatmeingreek I have not figured out how to copy anything in Linux yet Had not been a priority. All is working right now except this problem. Just tried the [b]ctrl-alt-- and ctrl-alt-+? [b] did nothing

revrus I did order new from Compaq. Printer deal came 1 week after my order. lol
The 1501 is a PnP so that should not matter from what I've read so far.

I plugged in a old 14" IBM CTR Monitor making no changed and it worked fine for what it is. It's 9 years old. lol Only a 8 bit ( 256 color ) Display.

I pulled this TFT 1501 over and tested it on my WinXP box and works fine at 60 - 75Hz 1024x768

Got curious on this one according to the site »h18004.www1.hp.com/produ ··· div.HTML

The monitor's preset graphics include 1024x768 @ 60hz,70hz,72hz,and 75hz.

Refresh rates are
Horizontal 31-61 khz

Vertical 56-76 hz.
So at 60 you're well within the specs.

Yeah but with 60hz it's like getting punched in the face 60 times per second...

Yea within specs but it is still going to drive me nuts if I don't get this message off my screen dancing about. Unless I find some good Peyote to make it enjoyable. LOL

Besides that blasted little message dancing about my screen the resolution looks great. All is good but that headache.

Try this XF86Config.

cp /etc/X11/XF86Config /etc/X11/XF86Config.orig
cp /path/to/this/file /etc/X11/XF86Config

Did that and it gave me cp: missing destination file Try `cp --help' and I did that and it did nothing.

I'm seeing Linix CLI is no match for MS DOS so far. Nothing is standard or even common in CLI shoot

If this is not acting right by time Win2003 Server is out Linux is getting scrapped!!!! It's too slow so far too. My Win95 was faster.

What dose one need to start smoking to speed this OS up? LOL It's in a P4 2.4 GHz with 256 MB DDR ram.

My XP runs circles around this thing.

Not our fault you chose Mandrake.

There's a reason why we don't use it.

Try SuSE 8.1

SuSE 8.1 was not offered and they were still only offering Redhat 7.4

It shipped with MDK8.2 but a friend hooked me up with the MDK9 Powerpac for just $10

I went over and played some with a neighbors SuSE and did not care for it.

So far the Distros I liked are the MDK, Redhat and Debian.

A long time friend of mine uses that Xandros Desktop and likes it. Have not seen it yet though.

I may grab a MKD9.1 ISO and all and give that a try this weekend it NO JOY by then.

If not I may Donate this MDK 8.2 & 9 so a charity. LOL and try the RedHat8.0

Re: Got my Mandrake 9.0 installed but Display goofy!!!

Just went through and checked the entire setup again step by step.

Maybe Mandrake just don't like this PC's monitor. I even dumped MDK9 and put MDK8.2 on there that came with it. Same blasted little message dancing around my monitor. Res & Refresh are fine. Just that blasted Freq of 75Hz can't be made.

Downloading SuSE8.1 now. Will give it a try in the morning. Don't like the look and feel of it as much but if it works what the hay.

Installing Linux is not for you if you can't use "cp". Trust me on this.

Threatening to use XP neither brakes my leg nor picks my pocket.

Skip you cant tell me you typed cp --help and got nothing. You sure you did that with Linux terminal and not in a DOS terminal.

You need to be root to copy to /etc. It's a security concept and I know it's hard coming from a windows world ware anybody can copy files on a system.

Cursing Linux won't help you, I've tried it. Read my sig.

I even tried this XFree86-SVGA sugestion this morning. Still NO JOY!!!!
