You are killing the power on the modem to clear the routers MAC address out of it right??? |

no. i haven't done this. I still don't understand why with rca modems you have to unplug the router to see the modem information screen. |

You don't; if you can't get to the modem's diagnostic screen, then the router is most likely the problem. (Not that it matters, but just this morning I checked a DCM245's status page through a Linksys wireless router.) You might try changing your internal IP range to something other than 192.168.x.x....maybe 10.x.x.x, or whatever. Personally, I think some routers aren't processing the subnet mask properly, and they're seeing all 192.168.x.x addresses as being in the same broadcast domain, regardless of the netmask. So when you're looking for 192.168.100.1, it doesn't look at the WAN port...it's expecting that address to be connected to the internal network. So if you change your internal network to a completely different range of IP's, then it won't think your modem's IP is on the same subnet. It's worth a try, anyway. |

i have a microsoft router? So if i put 10.x.x.x in the local area network ip address you say i should be able to pull up the 192.168.1.1 addy correctly? |

tried. It came up this message. the system is not working please try again later. what kind of error is this? |

I have no idea what that message would mean. Maybe your router needed a break. Is it a member of the Routers Union? Is your router acting as a DHCP server? And if so, is it assigning your computer a 10.x.x.x address? Your computer's IP needs to be on the same subnet with the router, or they won't talk to each other. |

yeah. i rebooted my computer. I get page not found when i try to go to 192.168.1.1 . My router is 10.168.x.x . Could this be where the problem is? Should I make my router and lan something else? Im beginning to think my router and cable modem formed their own Union and are striking against me and my agressive downloads. |

I can almost guarantee it's the router. I mean christ... Microsoft's software doesn't even work... what makes you think their hardware would? |

RCA modems have a MAC address table that can get filled up. Once it is full you cannot add new MAC addresses to the table and the new hardware you try to use on the modem does not work. Do the factory reset (hold down the reset button until all five lights come on). Power down your PC and router, perform the factory reset, wait for the modem to synchronize. Once the modem is synchronized, hook up your PC and boot it. It should work. If it does not... call the callcenter and tell them they need to clear your host record at the tier three level. This is something that the DNOC or Bridgeston can fix for you if the simple modem factory reset does not fix this problem for you. |

ok I changed the ips of my router and pcs. I still cannot get the 192.168.100.1 addy to load. I am going to try the factory reset of the modem in a few. Any other ideas? |

sounds like your router is the problem. I use a linksys and it works perfectly with my RCA modem. I don't know crap about Microsoft routers, and personally by the way their OS's run, wouldn't have bought one. |

I think the router is confusing the outside network with the inside network. Like, it wont query outside the LAN for local addresses, and since the modem is outside the lan, your router isn't talking to it. I'd look at msft for a firmware upgrade or something that might fix it. |

no firmware upgrade. I changed the lan ips(including router) to something other than 192.168.*.*,Haven't reset modem yet. Will resetting modem fix this? Any other solutions? |

No, I believe this is not a modem problem, hence its the router. I could truly believe that MSFT would make their router not even try to query LAN addresses on the outside of the router. Oh well . i used to check that page once a day along with a speedtest. now i dont have the time, nor do i really care. |

It may be because your network card's Media Type setting is set to 100BaseTX and not to AutoSense. It has to be set to AutoSense or 10BaseT Full Duplex in order to connect to your cable modem. |

I did reset the modem. But then for some reason i couldn't get any websites to come up until just now. I will look at my nic card settings in control panel to see about autosense. |

I am not an expert in this... but i have a Microsoft router (wireless) on my network, and I have no problem getting to my modem diagnostics at » 192.168.100.1/. I did not do anything special... just followed the installation instructions out of the box to set up my network. It did take it a couple of tries to find the modem in the setup - I had to reset the router twice, but once the RCA modem was found, the rest of the network setup went flawlessly. I also then disconnected the modem from the Microsoft network, and tried it directly connected to my system. It still worked. Therefore it is not necessarily the Microsoft software or router that is causing the problem. |

Hey mike the name of your topic is "still can't get rca modem to work WITHOUT router" Is this a misprint or is it working WITH the router and NOT working hooked straight up. |

I have a microsoft router (mnc100 i think). I cannot access the 192.168.100.1 site through the router. I tried resetting the modem, resetting the router, and changing my router and lan ip to 10.168.x.x from 192.168.x.x. None of this has worked. Now when I plug my modem directly into my computer the modem doesn't recognize that it is connected to my computer. I am trying to solve both of these problems. I would like to be able to access the 192.168.100.1 site without having to disconnect my modem from my router (thus disrupting the other computers with internet access) and if need be be able to connect the modem directly to my nic card and have it work as well. Any Ideas?? |
