and i never had those problem saying connecting to internet....

i even setup a system with 3 NICs and 2 systems linking to it.

the server :-
3 NICs :

1st NIC : ADSL modem, standard settings. Share internet connection. done. try to online with it. can work, settle.
make sure you share it to the "LOCAL AREA CONNECTION 2" which is connected to your the other system.

2nd and 3rd NICs : Bridge them up in WinXP by selecting both of them adn right click and bridge connection. if you got only one NIC. leave it alone. Don't bridge it.

IP address :192.168.0.1
Gateway : 192.168.0.1
DNS : 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

2nd System connecting to the server.
IP address : 192.168.0.2
Gateway : 192.168.0.1
DNS : 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

after setting up. Try to ping the server at 192.168.0.1. got raspond ? settle.... try to ping out now... 202.188.0.133.

P.S remmember to disable the Norton Firewall or any other equivalent Firewall program. if you can get out this way, then you only try to on the firewall, and fix the problem from there. for Norton users, use the wizzard.

I have 2 XP machines connected together with 1 of them connected to my streamyx using simple network - 2 nic / 1 nic. ICS is turned on. In the second machine, the streamyx connection shows up in network connections - so everything is fine. But I cannot access any webpages from that machine. You need to know the static IP address of your modem, if it is not Hase 220.

In your Network Properties of the PC that has two NICs, configure the following on the NIC that connected to the ADSL modem :

IP Address : 10.0.0.2
Subnet Mask : 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway : 10.0.0.1

Reinstall Wingate after you have configured the above, this is to effect the changes made in your Network Properties so that Wingate will be able to capture the changes.

it seems that wingate is choosing the wrong NIC, thus rendering my adsl connection useless.
and im not sure where to rectify it.

i plug 3 of them into my old MMX 200 system, one for adsl, one for my system and the other to my father's comp. install WinXP, bridge 2 of the NICs up, install raspppoe,
share the connection, and wahlah ~ you can online on all 3 comps .... but i don't use the server to surf tho.... but i use it to host my own webpages in no-ip.com and streaming online music thru it. want to listen to mp3s ? sure! wait till i get back my modem.... its with the aztech fellos now... i accidently flush it...and its screwed....

Since u say hubs are pretty much phased out, that means my next choice would be a switch? Smart boy router chooser might have $ in his pockets but rite now im a broke boy taking the best route for a simple way out. Heh:)

yeah, peer to peer is a tad bit annoying when u have to set up all the things up till everythings fine, but i've been using it awhile n so far so good. now i just need to share this damn streamyx.

Actually it's so easy to hook up the internet at the same time using the same adsl modem and streamyx account and 2 computer at home. My home now is 2 computer plugged into the second and third hole of a hub and another wire from adsl modem to the main hole of the hub. You can now connect seperately with the same streamyx account with different ip. (Good than using wingate or any others lor... you no need to put server or anything, who open which computer the computer can use automatically.)

I had a heck of the time trying to find the problem until I remember the firewall, pc 1(Norton IS) can ping pc 2 but pc 2 can't ping pc 1. I tried getting hub but I think the price drop too low they no longer sold in penang (mostly since I checked over 10 shops). Anyway switch is ok I got a 5 port CNet for around rm120.

i havent gotten an extra NIC yet.. i was hoping to get one.. but i came here instead to get better options. thanks everyone. okay but still im left with choices now.

option 1

get a switch. connect the adsl and both the pcs to the switch. Question : can i connect to the adsl modem and into the net thru one pc(any pc?), and then both the pcs will share the internet thru the switch? does the switch have more ports for more pcs to be connected?

option 2

my original idea. use 2 NICS on the main pc thats connecting to the net. 1 NIC for the adsl modem, 2nd one for the 2nd pc. 2nd pc shares internet connection thru a proxy like wingate. PJusa - no i dont use ICS.

I dont mind having both pcs on cuz i got plenty of different kinds of work to do simultaneously.
and i need both pcs to be on the net.

help me guys. need this done real quick. alot of work to be completed. I would prefer to use option 1, just need abit more info on this. and if anyone has a little more time on their hands.. please gimme a little more detail. thank you

the problem with peer-2-peer is that sometimes both pc can't seem 2 detect each other eventhough there is a link between the pc. i always have this problem especially when i need 2 transfer files from 1 pc 2 another urgently. other time ok leh.

Method 1 (if you want both pc using internet):pc no 1 use proxy(get any from free analogx proxy to winproxy or etc) thus pc no 2 connects to it.

Method 2(if only one of either pc goes to internet):
simply install the adsl on both pc and whichever you need to use the internet then connect.
