Intermittent Proxy

I have been experiencing intermittent problems with the proxy over the last 48 hours. Restarting the webcast service is no help. Doesn't last long but will not load pages. Have to turn proxy off. Can anyone else confirm ?

Confirmed. But, it has been doing this for about 2 weeks now. Definitely on 4/6/03 at 3:45 p.m. when I had to do what you did and during that time another problem cleared up but only for a while

Yep - I'd say it's been going on for at least a week.

"proxy detected".This is what I sometimes see at the top of the page when I visit this site. Some days it is there and some days it isnt.I dont notice any difference in performance. Can anyone comment if the "proxy detector" is reliable. If I dont see it does it mean I am somehow surfing without a proxy?

I'm not sure if it's going to continue, but over the last two or three days anytime I've had proxy problems using Internet Explorer, the proxy has worked fine with Opera and Mozilla. I'm beginning to blame more of my browsing troubles on Internet Explorer 6 than on the proxy, but I suppose that's not all that unbelievable, either.

I too have experienced proxy problems- g4r 1110. Sometimes pages have trouble loading even w/o the proxy lately too.

AND, I'm using opera 7... no IE junk here.

Well, I saw the party going on here and decided to join in. I'm on G11 990 mhz and have experienced proxy problems for over a week as well. I am SURE it has nothing to do with IE 6.0, as suggested by one, nor with the DW software but with the Proxy Server itself. Proxy Servers MUST be maintained if they are going to function as intended. And unfortunately, most ISPs do not spend time with maintenance. Whether this is the cause with our problems I cannot say, of course. DW may be fastidious in their maintenance schedule. So, it could be some other problem, which I would have a tendency to go with at this point.

In all fairness, it must be recognized that satellite transmission has far more variables than a landline transmission. It is probably a daunting job and a constant headache to the engineers who are responsible for keeping it working 100%. No, when problems occur, the consumer feels slighted and even angry and this adds to the frustration level of those responsible. If they are doing their best, I really can't expect much more, even though I would LIKE more. But if they are reticent to fix problems, THEN, I become rather disgruntled and complain.

I have been having problems too. Keep going back and forth...proxy on....proxy off (both client and host). Pages loading slow and some pages won't even load and are hanging up..

Ditto here - took three tries to load this page.
Kept hanging up then on the third try went through just like normal. Didn't do a thing - didn't even toggle the proxy off.

I am having problems with and without proxy. Pages either load very slowly or not at all. I can't connect to mail servers either.

I Concur. Problem originally seemed to be related to the proxy. I now believe it is not related to the proxy, as proxy on/off seems to not have an effect. From the responses here it does not seem to be related to a particular satellite either.

Phew! I guess I'm glad more people are having this problem- I've done some major changes to my setup lately and was hoping the problems weren't on my end.

This sucks, though.

Count me in! For the last several days, 505/501 errors... Sometimes turning proxy off seems to help, sometimes changing port from 85 to 83 (or vice-versa) seems to help, sometimes doing nothing but reloading seems to help. Help! Pretty annoying...

I've been experiencing problems with IE and email for several days now, thought it was something wrong with my system, glad to know that's not it. Is anyone also getting a problem with script errors?

Hello beckpal and welcome to the BBR Satellite Forum,

No script errors being seen here - post an example site and let other users check it out too.

Would you make yourself a signature line? - it aids those who would help you out to know where to start. A signature line is the small print you see at the bottom of the posts of most forum regulars. You'll find instructions for making a signature line here: »Re: [SRS] Service stops responding then starts again

I've got a complete new system and I'm having the problem also. I would think its time for everyone having the problem to start calling TS as bad as you hate to. It will take everyone to b*~*~*h at them before anything gets done. My 2 cents.

Amen.
As I said in another thread, Engineering doesn't have time for any of the problems unless many incidents get to their level. Got to push through level 1 and Advanced support. Use my case # 3634834 (inability to get to sites w/o PROXY [secure sites definitely], Red X's, intermittent PROXY status [ it went down exactly at 1:46 p.m. 4/11/03 -- they will never admit], slow browsing, can't connect to Yahoo games anymore). I can't even open another case #; they just throw every problem into same one (doesn't count as much I guess). Well I feel better after 15 hrs of rebuilding system just to experience SAME problems; restored back to other. But, DO HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.

I am having same problems here as others have described.

Slow browsing or no browsing with proxy on or proxy off.
Wait ten minutes and every thing is fine for awhile.
When problem occurs both modem lights are steady.

Looks like Direcway needs to admit that they have a problem and do something to fix it.

From my observations from the posts the problem seems to be occuring on the G4R transponders.

Maybe someone from Direcway will read these posts and act accordingly!!

Yep, we have really slow browsing on proxy with Satmex5 1250. I've noticed this for several days now. It is frustrating. I haven't noticed any status errors.

I'm thinking DNS. Last night, 198.77.116.8 took a huge dump on me. Switched to Earthlink's 207.217.120.83 and everything has been good since then. So maybe playing around with your DNS assignments might provide better performance.

I don't think it is a DNS problem. My reason for this point of view is that while I was experiencing an outage I tried to access my company mail server (Using OWA), in order to reach the mail server I enter the IP address directly, thus no lookup is required. It failed. This looks more to me like a load balancing or router problem at the NOC, in my opinion.

That makes sense to me. I wonder if the server farm is being reconfigured, upgraded, or if is some kind of extended maintenance is in progress? Pure conjecture at this point.
