Are you using a Virus Scanner? If so, temporarily disable it's mail scanning and see if it will allow you to send. I have seen this happen with NAV and Trend on quite a few occasions. Make sure after disabling AV that the outgoing mail server is set for mail.bellsouth.net, and not popproxy or localhost.
