You may want to have a tech come out and check your noise level it may be a maintence issue on the feeder and LineExtender.... also Comcast has recently budgeted several billion dollars in upgrading ALL AT&T systems to 550mhz w/ 2 way coms for internet by 1st quarter 2004... so things may improve in your area since you were an AT&T plant... And yes I have comcast cable... I've signed up for the pro service and i get mega bandwidth + 5 IPs, more than advertised... ad says 3.5 down and 386 up... during *peek* times i normally surf around 3.7 and 366.... so I am very impressed... and pro service cost $95 /month free install...
I gave up on trying to fix it after about 2 hours, I unplugged my cable modem for awhile, switched some of the cables, and went to bed - it's not going nearly as slow today... Not sure how fast it is going, useable though
I had no idea that Comcast even had a pro service.
Today 2 things came to my attention.
1: I found out that Speakeasy.net has a DSL setup for 1500 down /768 up - Which I signed up for - 69$/mo for 5 mo, 99$ /mo for 13. (I may cancel depending on #2...)
2: Provo is has started a FIBER OPTIC network, which looks like it will cost 15$ / month - but I don't know all the details, and it won't be completely available until fall. (iProvo)
Since AT&T changed to Comcast - I have noticed a HUGE improvement, though it's been a headache from the word go... I do feel like they have not delivered as advertised - sure everything goes down at one time or another, but when it's so often that you spend as much or more time dealing with support than actually using the service, something NEEDS to be fixed.
Personally, the idea of "powercycling" bothers me, it's like Windows 95, you reboot everytime something breaks. Guess what, you're going to have to keep rebooting, it's not fixed, it's a poor workaround. 1 to 3x a month is not excessive, but when it's multiple times a week, that's ridiculous. (Now I'm just ranting)
We'll see how Comcast compares to Speakeasy, neither of which will guarantee speeds (for residential), but will "do their best to get it to work".
