<description><![CDATA[snowsam posted : I'm using a 3COM 3CRWE62092A card in a Pent 133 Toshiba Tecra 720CDT with good success. I am running windows 2000, but 95 or 98 in theory would work as well. The card is nice in that it has a retractable antenna (so that you can leave it in the computer all the time)-- but the downside to this is that you cannot hook up an external antenna. <br><br>I think that the specs between these two computers are similar, but I am not certain. <br><br>Really, a 486 is not going to be the best for "hard-core" web browsing. If you could spare a couple of hundred and were a thrifty-shopper you would be better off with a >= 400MHz laptop. <br><br>Here is the on secret to getting this particular card work with my Toshiba laptop:<br><br><SMALL>3CRWE62092B - 3CRSHPWx96 - Toshiba Laptop - Card installs but will not associate to a wireless network<br>Fact:	3CRWE62092B<br>Fact:	3CRSHPW196<br>Fact:	3CRSHPW696<br>Problem:	Card installs but will not associate to wireless network<br>Problem:	Card will not function in Toshiba laptop<br>Problem:	Cannot associate to Access Point<br>Problem:	Launcher shows no connection<br>Fact:	Toshiba<br>Fact:	Toshiba Laptop<br>Cause:	In order for the 3CRWE62092B, 3CRSHPW196, and 3CRSHPW696 PC cards to function in a Toshiba Laptop the PC Card Controller Mode in the BIOS must be set to AUTO or CARDBUS / 16BIT<br>Fix:	Perform the following steps to change the PC Card Controller Mode on a Toshiba Laptop: 1. Power on or reboot the laptop 2. Hold down the on boot up 3. Press the F1 key when prompted to enter the system BIOS ( Setup ) 4. Set PC Card Controller Mode to CARDBUS/16-BIT or AUTO 5.
