You're welcome.....
As for the proxy, do you mean an actual proxy with caching or just a gateway so that you don't have to use WinPoet to dial? I've managed to get it to work as a gateway but with some caveats.....i can't remember the settings off the top of my head, will check it when i get home from work. |

urmm... gateway kot..? = anyway, i've managed to setup the DSL305E to become internet router, so that user at home (or anywhere) can use the modem as a router (and forget about WinRoute or Internet Connection Sharing). here is step by step info (for modem) : 1. open ur browser and point it to » 10.0.0.2 and enter admin for username. leave password blank. 2. Click on NAT under Advanced Configurations, and enable it, then click Submit. 3. Click Admin Mode (the one with yellow link). 4. Goto WAN under Configurations. Underv PVC Profile, Set Protocol/Encapsulation to PPPoE LLC (i have to figure out this myself.. phew!) 5. under PPP configuration, enter ur username@streamyx and password. Enable Auto Reconnect, and set Enabled to Enabled auto reconnect to ISP when launching web browser. 6. under DHCP Client, enable DHCP Client, and put 1.1.1.1 on Host Name box. 7. Click Apply. 8. Go to DNS under Configurations. Under DNS Proxy Selection, select Use User Configured DNS Server Only, and under User Configuration : , put 202.188.0.133 for preffered DNS and 192.228.128.18 for Alternate DNS (or anything u want.. 9. Click Apply. 10. Click Save Settings under Security. 11. Click Save button, and wait ur modem reboot. step info for client (pc) : 1. make sure u Obtain IP automatically, remove all the gateways, and leave the DNS as is. Enjoy!! ps: sorry for the typos and grammar.. i'm in hurry. |

Also, if you're using Win9x boot-up will be slightly longer with DHCP....for my side I just assign a static private IP for the network card and switch DHCP off on the 305E. |

fone bone : yes, it is a bit slow if using DHCP (in nanoseconds - if we talk geeks). well, imho, whatever dhcp server that we will be using, it will make the bootup a little bit slow. anyway, for easy starter, it would be a good idea to use DHCP. gui : i noticed something that in DSL305E user interface, ADSL Configurations is missing. gladly someone told me that the address for ADSL Configurations is at » 10.0.0.2/doc/adslconf.htm (hint : set it to AutoSense T1.413 if your DSL led keep blinking non-stop) anyway, great community we have here! thanx! |

urmm... i can't answer that question because that is the only DSL modem that i ever use. anyway, if ur DSL keep on blinking, try changing the DSL Configurations and set it to AutoSense T1.413.
i live in bandar baru ampang, and the connection here is like hell. i never get my line connected more than three straight hours without disconnect or line drop. |

If so can teach me ah....heheh me newbie to all this routing thingy and i have 3 comps at home. Why would i wan to do it?, Well some of my programs need static ip to run some network program's and games. |

well.. that is easy liao. like fone bone said, just disable DHCP on ur DSL305E and thats it! ..urmm.. ok, not that easy actually. but maybe this step by step info will help. 1. log to your 305E router by using » 10.0.0.2 (admin with blank password). 2. follow the steps that i have mentioned above for setting your 305E as internet router. 3. Now, under LAN & DHCP, do not Enable DHCP Server (remove the mark). For ur static IP, i would suggest your Router to be using the same IP segment as your home network. so, change the IP Address under "Enter the LAN IP Address". 4. Now, apply, and save the setting. good luck! |

matkeri, i live in taman watan, which is just beside bandar baru ampang. i want to get streamyx if there is really a free modem promotion end of this month. r u connected to the tasik ampang exchange?
if the line sucks then i would prefer staying on dialup coz it's not worth it in case i kept getting line drops n poor speed, ie, slower than dialup.
my dialup is working properly now n i m quite satisfied with the browsing speed. the problem comes when i m trying to download something. i use internet very often n that's y i m thinking about rm88 package. however if it is not too wise to subscribe it, then i won't |

it is always wise to subscribe.. y? flat rate if u asked me regarding to my technician who installed my streamyx, he said that i am connected to bandar baru ampang exchange, and he told me that tasik ampang node is full. for me, to get connected to internet is not a problem, but to stay there longger as we expected, that is the problem (well, at least with me). sometimes it keep on dc for every one to two hours... sometimes i did managed to hook to the line for almost five hours flatt... and then dc atm, compared to dial-up connections and charges, IT IS wise to subscribe if u use internet everyday. just log on, and stop worrying of ur connected times |

Thanks matkeri, finally got my DSL305E to work as a router on my Streamyx. Now i dont have to worry about having to log on manually everytime any one of my pc's wants to get on the net. I can just connect it within the modem itself and leave it.
One more thing, i know i can set the modem to disconnect when it is idle (Auto disconnect from ISP when there is no data transfer? ), but is there anyway to make it dial whenever any pc in my network access the internet? is it this one? (Enable auto reconnect to ISP when lauching web browser? ). But when i set the setting, it tells me an error (Default Gateway is invalid!) Help pls....i dont want to be called everytime one of my family want to go on the net. |

Hi there, do you mean you get the "Default Gateway" error within the 305E itself? I think I remember getting it too when i set the Connect when launching web browser thing...there's a gateway setting on that same page where you have to make sure it's not blank, just put 0.0.0.0 to point to itself. Another point to add to matkeri's excellent info is that, yes you should put the router's LAN IP and your network card's static IP to the same network range, as you'll be unable to access the GUI otherwise. One final point is that whenever i boot up my PC (although I'm not linked through a switch/hub), and before I launch my browser, the line is already connecting by itself, which means there's setting to detect traffic or otherwise, but i haven't been bothered to find out that setting yet |

I wonder if we really need to set under Admin, WAN, PVC Profile, Bridge Mode Enabled to on? Mine is set to on (when telekom initially set it up for use with Winpoet), and since my line is working, i haven't tried to switch it off....something to check later. |

dual : first, u cannot set the WAN while the modem is connecting to the internet. disconnect the modem first, unplug the DSL line from ur modem, and go back to WAN to set the settings. i don't know why we have to do this, but for me, it looks like a bug on the firmware. actually, this is not a technical advise, it is more to "try-it-out-yourself-because-it-works-for-me" kind of things . anyway, by entering 0.0.0.0 as advised by Fone Bone, it also works for me. for that Bridge Mode, i don't have a clue what is it. anybody? ps : sometimes, the gateway is blank, but some other time, all the box in WAN is empty! |

When you switch to bridged mode on your modem, you'll need to use a third party PPPoE dialer to connect.Your modem will just establish a link with the DSLAM and thats it.To authenticate you'll need to use RASPPPoE or other PPPoEs. Then there is another mode called router mode which lets you don auto connect whenever you start up your computer. It's useful if you plan to share your connection because router mode lets you set DHCP to assign internal ips for your devices. But for individual users its recommended to use bridged mode for simplicity and better management. |

I know the bridge mode is used when you want the user to use Winpoet to connect to the Net. Seems like it just provides the connection between the local network and the ISP, but the user is still required to use the 3rd party software to connect. Anyway, as long as this particular model can be set to use PPPoE, it saves the trouble of initiating the connection and it can be shared without a PC being the gateway too. |

anybody has had bad experience with this modem? to date, i've officially screwed 2 aztech 305Es (hehe...lucky tmnet offered to replace them for me foc). i've noticed that if u change the config a few times via the web interface and then reboot the modem a few times, it will KO. u can't access or even ping 10.0.0.2 anymore and the DSL indicator won't even light up. reset the thing gazillion times also still the same. what gives? |

I've reset that thing around 10 times and no problem with it.. Did you accidently power off when resetting the modem or when saving the setting? |

Yup, i've seen the 305E go down in flames like that before, if you change a few settings in a row with reboots in between. Not sure what's the exact cause though. |
