Johnny, is that the Developer price???

Almost worth it to pay the ADC fees!

Actually, ADC wants me to renew Premier, and I would do it if I could get 8 people to agree to give me back half of the discount I would get for them. Everybody wins.

But I don't need 10 discounts this year.

Premier renewal is $3500.00 . It comes with 10 discount coupons.

If I get 8 people promise to buy a system, they'll each get 20% off if I give them a discount.

To get back most of my $3500, and keep 2 discounts for myself to use, let's say the 8 people buy systems averaging $2500 each retail. With the discount coupon, they pay only $2000, saving $500 each. If they each give me back $250, I get $2000 back. So I spent $1500 and I got about $1500 worth of discounts on my 2 coupons that I kept. Plus I get the Premier membership which includes a $1599 e-ticket to WWDC and whatever $150 toy they give out like the iSight this year.

If the participants buy cheap systems or only iPods, etc, it doesn't work.

I am very interested, since I am looking at getting a PowerBook soon, most likely once new ones are released or a speed bump.

Can someone familiar with the Apple Store illustrate me on the following points?

1) Do they charge sales tax?
2) Do they charge for shipping?
3) Is the whole hardware purchase (i.e. displays, applecare, speakers, ipod, iSight) included in the discount? How about software?

If the math works (i.e. if the eventual combination of tax/shipping charges offsets the goodies and tax freedom I get at catalog retailers) AND if I can use it as early as in two weeks, I might sign up for one. I've already used my one-per-year educational discount...

Now, if I could only get a Formac display at the Apple Store...

As far as I understand, tax is most likely in just about all states where Apple may have some sort of office.

Shipping is free via ground.

The discount only counts for ONE item, thus you have to use more for more items. So it is wise to use it for something expensive.

OK, conflicting information here. Can I put one powermac and one display on the same discount or not? If not, it won't work for me, as I'm thinking of getting at most a $1600 computer and a $1200 display (maybe the $1999, if I stretch it).

Edit: it might still work if new 15" PBs come out in two weeks...

It covers a whole system, including monitor and iPod, and all BTO choices.

It does not cover software or any of the "do you need anything else" listed things like cameras, etc.

Interesting, I had the student discount confused with the developer discount. Thanks for clarifying

See above, yes one discount applies to one whole system on one order.

Goto »developer.apple.com/memb ··· usa.html and click the link to the hardware store to see the prices.

Grant? Did you say grant?

ADC takes purchase orders.

It's a Canadian grant. I have to pay for the purchase with my credit card and they will reimburse me for it. US prices are about 10% lower than Canadian ones at the current exchange rate, so I'm looking to get a computer before I move on July 30, and ship it along with my personal goods. But the university will not reimburse me for giving you half the discount back, cash...

Heck no - you charge the Premier membership to the grant! Then sell the discounts and pocket the profit!

Hmmmm. Don't think an economics department overseeing and economic history grant will be too excited about a $3500 membership in a developers' program. Not in my first year...
