Re: Help? on again off again, zyxel prestige 600

I found a fix!!!! First you have to put your modem into bridge mode. Do this by going to the modem web interface at »172.16.0.254/config and disable DHCP/NAT/PPPOE mode. The modem will then reboot. When it comes back up you will have to give yourself a static IP address. Just use what it always assigned you by DHCP which is 172.16.1.10 for you IP 255.255.0.0 For you Subnet and the Gateway and DNS should be 172.16.0.254. After you have done this make sure you can still web browse to the modem to check your settings. Now you need to create a dialer. This is done through Network Connection. You want to CREATE A NEW CONNECTION. When the wizard pops up just click next then select CONNECT TO THE INTERNET, then SETUP YOUR CONNECTION MANUALLY, then CONNECT USING A BROADBAND CONNECTION THAT REQUIRES YOU TO SIGN IN, then give the connection whatever name you desire, Input your username and password for the connection (THIS IS YOUR EARTHLINK USERNAME AND PASSWORD) And I left the internet connection firewall disabled. Then after it is completed just click connect and you should be back up in no time. All of the instruction I gave you were for windows XP Professional. Which should be the same for XP Home.•
NOTE: I have only tired this with a Zyxel Model #645M-UHP Modem (says model number on the bottom) Also if you don't get a DSL Light then you are not going to be able to connect no matter what. When you are connecting using this method the ACT light will not light. This is normal.

Works for Broadmax UHP modem and my VisionNet UHP modem as well, you're basically just disabling the routing capabilities of the modem / router combo and electing to do it yourself. I find I get a much more stable connection this way.
