[Philly] Eagles banning outside food at the gamesI recently remarked about how 9-11 was used by private entities to justify price gouging hikes in their service offerings. The one that really bugged me the most was how the loser Eagles decided to ban all outside food from their new taxpayer-subsidized playground because of "terrorism concerns". Who else thought this was a load of BS? Does the Eagles management think the general public is that clueless? Of course, considering the Eagles couldn't win a Superbowl if their own lives depended on it, I don't think that's an incorrect assessment. |

yeah.... can we go through that rationaliza- (oops, sorry) rationale just one more time?
9/11/01 WTC bombings 10/01 airports start screening 10/01 Eagles have no problem with food being brought in 2002 homeland security heightened alerts abound 2002 Eagles still have no problem with food being brought in 2003 Eagles have new stadium, need to generate money 2003 Now Eagles have problems with food being brought in
what's next, a link between tailgating and Al-Qaeda? |

Maybe, I am surprised that the Eagles haven't already blamed al-qaeda for losing last year's NFC Championship. |

You know, I'd have less of a problem with the policy if they were just honest and said it was about making money.
The policy I think that hurts the most is the sign policy which bans Sign Man from putting up his classic banners anywhere at the Linc. |

Me too. Of course, I think any money made from the stadium should be used to compensate us, the taxpayers of Pennsylvania, who got fleeced to build these playgrounds in the first place. And of course, if people continue to buy tickets to the games, the Eagles can get away with anything they want to. |

Apologies for replying to my own post... said by pnh102: Does the Eagles management think the general public is that clueless?
Apparently, they do think that indeed. Eagles' owner Jeffrey Lurie continues to insist that this bad is all about security when everyone else knows its not. Come on, Jeffrey. Most people know BS when they see it. First it was Eagles President saying that people who question the ban are being "unpatriotic", now you are pretending to "not care" about people not bringing in their own food? Just be truthful and admit that you put the ban in place as a means of increasing stadium revenue. |

Joe Banner and Jeff Laurie need to grow some balls. Those two morons couldn't punch their way out of a wet paper bag.
This latest thing with Banner being 'offended' by Angelo Cataldi's 'anti-Jewish' comments are just as ludicrous as the hoagie argument. Talking about losing credibility in the span of an offseason.
I tell you what, you can try to do what they're doing using the new stadium as leverage, but don't expect anything less from Philadelphia fans than a swift kick in the nuts. It's what have you done for us TODAY and that's the way it should be. |

Yea I remember reading about that today. I am glad Cataldi didn't apologize, and I don't see how his remarks could be construed as being "anti-Jewish." IMO, it would have been anti-Jewish if he had something like "they should just ban the Jews from the stadium" or something like that. Besides, he is right... now you WILL have security guards frisking people for bringing in "illegal food." This is actually one of the reasons I don't go to concerts anymore. Paying all that money for the privilege of being frisked like a criminal and not being allowed to bring in things we me to the arena? Screw that. But then again, if they keep it up, they will have no security problems whatsoever, as no one will bother to go anymore. |

Yeah, just stuff all your goods down your crotch and watch them pass you right through the line
Anyways, the Eagles are ridiculous. They are going to allow radios and binoculars in, which contain hard plastic/metal housing. Radios will contain BATTERIES for crying out loud! Who says you can't rig a bomb in a radio and keep it functional????? So you can look through binoculars to test them; what if the terrorist stuffs the remaining parts with plastique????
Those people must think we're dumb. That's the worst part about it, it's so condescending its offensive. As the Daily News put it, we better watch out for those "Hoagies of Mass Destruction." Yuck, die Eagles front office. |

The only reason radios, TVs and binoculars haven't been banned is because they don't sell or rent those out during the games. Oh crap, I think I just gave them an idea. |

I was wondering why they didn't take a clue from the FUC. It's always entertaining to watch the "binocular unlockers" run around during an event. |

I was listening to Michael Smerconish (sp?) (it might have been Jeff Katz, I don't remember) talking about Hoagie-gate the other day. He was saying that if the Phillies do not follow suit and ban food at their stadium because of "security concerns," then it will be even more confirmation that the Eagles' use of that excuse to ban outside food is nothing but baloney. |

I already know it's baloney. Which is ironic if you think about it. Har har.
Anyways, I'm tuned into 610 now all the time because of the fiasco with Angelo and now Howard. Its like a soap opera, I can't turn it off. |

Well it looks like at least the state government has taken notice of this: » abclocal.go.com/wpvi/new ··· ban.html» www.nbc10.com/sports/235 ··· ail.htmlNormally I am all for minimal government involvement in pretty much anything, but considering the fact that our taxes paid for this playground, its only natural that the government have a say in how its run... hehehehe. I for one hope this bill passes. |

Unfortunately, the mayor and the governor have both punked out on this one. As it stands now, I'm sure we'll be heading into Season I with a food ban in place. But Philadelphia is the wrong place to be an owner of a sports franchise and try to mess with your fans. Haven't they seen what we do to Santa?? |

True, but considering how many legislators had to be bribed to vote for the stadium funding in the first place, it could pass on a veto override. That stadium funding bill paid for new venues for:
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Philadelphia Phillies
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Pittsburgh Pirates
- PSU Nittany Lions (this was done so that legislators from Pensyl-tucky wouldn't complainl)
Given this broad-based support, it is entirely possible that you could see statewide approval for this bill, and that it would pass even with Gov. Rendell vetoing it. If there are enough votes to override a veto threat, I think Rendell would probably change his mind and either sign the bill or let it become law without his signature. |

The only problem is, no one cares about Philadelphia except those in Philadelphia Now, if Pittsburgh were having the same problem, I wouldn't doubt the bill would pass. |

Yea... come to think of it, you're right... the rest of the Commonwealth thinks that Philadelphia is a rat-infested craphole so won't care either way. |

Hoagie Gate @ The LincWell it looks like Eagles will now be allowing food to enter the stadium, but only through a special gate. |
