trying to help a friend what does he have to do

He has an older gateway...with all the gateway installs.
Aol, Yahoo....etc junk LOL
He just got dsl and the guy put on the works when he came
and installed the lines.

His system was slow anyway so he is going to format and reinstall XP.

What is the bare minimum stuff he needs to install on his system to get back up and running with dsl?

thanks big time for any pointers I dont know what he needs to do, but I assume he wants to get back onto yahoo because his email is going there.

thanks again

a PPPoE client.

If he gets a router, he needs no software other than a browser.

There's a simple answer for you

XP has it's own PPPoE client. You don't need to install Enternet or any stuff from the CD. Just go through the network wizard and create a PPPoE connection. That should be all you need to get going on XP.

He will have it when he installs XP. It has native PPPoE along with a wizard to get you connected. The hardest part is to remember to add the domain to the username.

Yes, that's correct. He can do it with Netscape and Mozilla as well.
