This program seems to be interfering when it didn't before. Is this normal? My hard drive is 70% used up. Could this be the reason? I have no idea, just guessing.

A quick google search for cidaemon.exe indicates this is part of the Indexing Service, which, on less powerful machines, can slow down the world.

Yes, I found it was an indexing service, ie link I posted. So, then maybe it is because my disk is getting full now.

I'm running 1.5 gh P4

that makes sense - more files to index!

as MSeng said it can slow things down awfully. you don't need the indexing service so you can disable it:

Okay! Thank you both. I was afraid to do disable the program. Much appreciated. I think that just solved my system performance problems. Things are smooth again.

The Indexing Service, along with System Restore, are the
two biggest resource hogs in Windows XP and likely 2000
as well. Most of the Services configuration sites (Black
Viper & others) say to disable them.
