[XP] cidaemon.exe cpu |
» www.liutilities.com/prod ··· idaemon/This program seems to be interfering when it didn't before. Is this normal? My hard drive is 70% used up. Could this be the reason? I have no idea, just guessing. [text was edited by author 2003-08-17 16:18:10] |

A quick google search for cidaemon.exe indicates this is part of the Indexing Service, which, on less powerful machines, can slow down the world. |

Yes, I found it was an indexing service, ie link I posted. So, then maybe it is because my disk is getting full now.
I'm running 1.5 gh P4 |

that makes sense - more files to index! as MSeng said it can slow things down awfully. you don't need the indexing service so you can disable it: Improve Performance By Disabling Indexing Service |

Okay! Thank you both. I was afraid to do disable the program. Much appreciated. I think that just solved my system performance problems. Things are smooth again. [text was edited by author 2003-08-17 17:33:39] |

The Indexing Service, along with System Restore, are the two biggest resource hogs in Windows XP and likely 2000 as well. Most of the Services configuration sites (Black Viper & others) say to disable them. |

take a looky here: BBR FAQ - Microsoft Application Tips & Tweaks - Section 4.1 where you'll find: How can I tweak the services for NT-W2K-XP?which will take you to: What Services can I change to speed up my system?[heed the warning in this FAQ which refers to Event Log & RPC Services!] |
