New Variation?

Hey guys.. I have to say this site has been a god send to me.. I am of moderate computer geekiness while still keeping my feminine side
(grin)
and I have been able to help many people get this problem off their computer.. I do have one computer that remains stubborn, and was wondering if I could get some help>
I have removed the msblast from the system (like I have done to several others) but this system can no longer log into the internet. It dials up (finally) after several persistant tries and then is immediately dissconnected (after about 5-10seconds) telling me the connection has failed..msblast WAS on the system but is no longer there (I have also removed it from the registry)... any ideas on what I should look for?? I have scoured the internet hoping this is some variation on what we have all been dealing with, and so far havent been able to find any info.. thank you in advance for any help!!

Welcome to BBR - always happy to have more friendly faces.

MSBlast is a worm that exploits a bug in Windows and spreads, but it also (a) implants a backdoor and (b) is not the only code that does so. If your system is not behaving properly, it may be that you have some other bad-ware on your system, perhaps placed by a bad guy.

At this point your best bet is to run antivirus and anti-Trojan software on your system and see if it finds something. For anti-Trojan, I like BOClean from Privacy Software, but there are others.

It smells to me like your system is still infected.

Good luck.

Thank you for the quick reply!!
well this issue with this system is that i cannot even log into the local server. sometimes it wont dial, and after several tries will finally dial but only stays connected for just a few seconds. so it is another issue other than msblast.
well.. i will keep digging to see what i can come up with.

I tell you one thing... all my coworkers and friends who did not want to deal with firewalls are sure wishing they had listened to me.
