RR and cabletv and internet installationDoes anyone here know if its RoadRunner policy to not lay cable line temporarily across a sidewalk?
We waited 2 weeks for RoadRunner to finally come to our new house to install our cable tv and internet. However he didn't do it because we have a sidewalk *in our back yard* and it would be a liability if he layed the wire across it (even though the telephone company has their line laying across it, its also our own walkway, not a public sidewalk). So now we sit without TV or Cable for the guy who buries the line to install it... who knows how many weeks that will take.
The idiot also disconnected all the wires to our OnQ data box we had installed. Made it so we only have support for 4 televisions (with the OnQ connection, we have support for 6). So now I will have to undo his wiring and fix it the way its supposed to be.
We moved down south, only to find out RoadRunner gives pretty crappy service. We had much better service with Charter in Wisconsin. Its like pulling teeth to get them to do *anything*. |

the sidewalk is in your backyard? if you tell them you waive tripping liability i dont see why they wont. also don't be letting them fool with your home a/v distribution system |

Yes we asked him also if we could sign a paper to waive liability, he said he can't do that either.
He also tried to charge us for wiring the rooms of our new house, even though all the rooms are already wired. He then says he can wire 4 for free. I assume thats why he put on his own 4 tv splitter, to get back at us for not paying him to wire all the rooms. |

he sounds like a real piece of work... consider complaining and asking that they send a more qualified installer. |

I'm in Greensboro and when they came and did my install they simply laid the cable on the ground (across my neighbors yard and driveway) until the "bury" crew came out 2 days later. Hopefully the bury crew will be out in that time span. But me myself would call and complain, who knows you might get a month free considering they claim on-time set-up guarantee or even expedite the bury crew. Remember the squeaky wheels the one that gets the oil. [text was edited by author 2003-08-21 10:01:08] |

I am an installer and I will not lay a wire over a sidewalk or driveway. It's company policy and it is a liability issue.
However, if you had offered to dig up the dirt around the sidewalk and putting it under yourself, he may have been okay with it. |

Also, I do not work for TW. I've worked for 2 cable companies and they both had that policy. |

It took 3 different appointments to get the install done, then they left the cable running across my front yard AND driveway for 3 weeks. It took 4 phone calls to get it buried. Out house is new construction and the worst part is that cable had already been run from the house to the street. The bozos who did the install couldn't route it to the node on the other side of the driveway, so they ran another cable. The original cable is still buried there. They also wired every connection in the outside box (6 total) even though I only have 2 TVs plus the PC. My installation was free, but that way, they got paid for 6 installs. Amazing. |

we'll they have to get a special tech out that can do a sidewalk bore, but they should've schd it out, but with TW the installers are allowed to let it run over the sidwalk/driveway, but it has to be burried, but it differs from division to divison i belive, i'm in houston |

Well its 3 weeks now since we asked Timewarner (Roadrunner) to install our line, and still no cable tv or internet. I'm told by a Timewarner tech guy to "let him know" in another 5 to 10 business days. Don't you just love how fast TimeWarner is.
I can only imagine what it would be like trying to get something fixed.
This is exactly what happens when company has a monopoly in a market area. |

With Football season fastly approaching....I can assure you a portion of a sidewalk would be missing if that's all I needed to get cable. Heck with the cost of concrete....Football is priceless Lowe's\Home Depot have a sale on BIGGGG sledge hammers. BTW....how far " down south" are we speaking of ? |

Well I am in Mount Holly, NC. (near Charlotte).
The house is brand new, so we won't be breaking the sidewalk. TimeWarner is just being a bunch of jerks.
Its now exactly 4 weeks with no cable installed. The guy "supposedly" came out today, but went to the wrong street address. He went to the address of the previous owner of our phone number. (despite the fact the previous two Timewarner guys had no problems finding the correct house, and neither did the phone company, and they all have our correct address).
Now I suppose we are back at the bottom of their "list" AGAIN. I sent an email bitching to some guy at Timewarner, but received no reply back as expected. We deserve a years worth of free cable at this rate.
I also told him they should be here tomorrow to install it since he messed up going to the wrong house. Even if it means he works overtime. But that will be a joke if that happens. |
