WareWolF2k posted : Try this... (you can unplug/plug USB devices with the computer power on and it wont hurt them). Boot up the computer and if the mouse is stuck unplug it, then plug it back in and see what happens. Still a hassle but if it works it will be easier than rebooting. If that does not work try booting up with the mouse unplugged, when windows is done loading plug it in, hopefully one way or the other will work. If you have a front USB port on your machine this will be easy otherwise get a USB extension cable and attach it to your desk somewhere convienient. If neither option works you might just want to get another mouse.

mb posted : I am using a Walmart Logitech USB optical wheel mouse with XP. I didn't have to install a driver for it, just plugged it in and started the machine. What I am trying to say is, delete the driver and reboot the machine, see if XP installs a driver for it.

Sweet Witch posted : I'm guessing it's a USB mouse? Do other USB devices load correctly on the first boot? Have you checked the cables? Have you tried reinstalling the mouse? Once in a while when I boot, my USB mouse isn't seen and I have an always connected ps/2 that I can use instantly to troubleshoot - the USB mouse deactivates itself in the Device Manager. NO problems though since updating the drivers.

skudtz posted : I have a TRUST optical mouse and when I boot up my machine EVERY time without fail the mouse is stuck and will not move so I hit the restart button and it is fine as soon as the PC reboots...

This ONLY happens when the PC first boots up once shut down. It doesn't do it the second time , never...

Any ideas why this would happen, and what a cure might be . It isn't affecting anything else and it doesn't cause me any problems, but it would be nice not to HAVE to boot twice every time I switch on the PC

I am runnin an AMD 2100+ with XP and 256MB ram on a Nvidea gefoce FX5200 vid card
