Random Lag In Kansas

Okay...Ive been calling cox hsi tech number for about two months now...Ive called about 15 times more or less.

Theve sent 4 techs to my house, another coming saturday...the techs keep telling me theve seen this before...thats all i hear about it..ive tried everything, new router, two different hubs, two different nic cards, different windows...everything...

what happens is while playing games or even surfing the new, in other words using the net, ill get random lags...sometimes it works great...great downs and ups, but when it starts lagging it can go from 10 minutes to 5 hours...it will lag for about 10 seconds,,,stop,,,work fine,,,5 minutes later lag again for another 10 seconds or so...and this goes on for random times...really really annoying.

everytime i call i just get told a tech can come out and look at this problem...which i know is useless...i know this because i have three friends with cox HSI in my town...they dont even use a router/hub...directly connected unlike me and they get the exact problem...to even more dismay we lag at the same times...which is weird...we can be on phone playing a game...different games to see what would happen and we would both be like lagging...at same times...then it would stop at the same time...so i think there is something up with this are but techs dont listen to me im just some 19 year old punk it seems...which im not...i happen to be totally into computers and know a lot about them for my age i believe...its all i study now days...lol...

Please would a cox tech please help me with this problem...ive read on the forums here that others have had this exact problem in there areas too...please help...my email is (removed by moderator) if you would like to email me any questions or if a cox from here could call that too would be greatly appreciated...contact me via email if you can do this also...

I too live in Ark City and have been with Cox for about four years (from back in the RoadRunner days) using the same old SB3100 cable modem. I haven't had problems with Cox tech reps during that time, nor have I experienced the "Random Lag(s)" you reference, but then I don't play games over the internet. I added a wireless NAT router back in May of this year with no noticeable difference in performance. I still get at or very near 3000/238 speeds on the computer connected to the router and modem (through onboard Intel NIC). Our other two PC's at 35' and 50' LOS (second one through four walls) average about 1500-1700/218 speeds. All three PC's are using WinXPHE.

If by "random lag" you mean some sites open slower than others sometimes, I do get that, especially during peak user hours. No help here then, because I haven't had, and can't duplicate your "lag" problem. You mention that the Cox tech reps stated they had seen this problem before. If so, didn't they recommend any solution to correct it?!

Good luck.

No they didnt say what to do to fix it or i wouldnt be here and by random lag i mean it will be working great for 5 minutes...normal likes yours...tahn bam , 10-20 seconds of lag...its very hard to tell when just surfing the net cause it dosnt tell you this, but when playing a game it will tell you you lost connection or wont allow you to keep playing until your ping goes back to normal...this happens with all my games i play, and i play about 8-10 different games on this computer and have the same problem.

My 2 friends also have this exact same problem and they live all the way across town...on this forum other locations hava had this problem too...i believe it was nevada i think that i saw had this exact problem a while back.

tech is coming today sometime between 8-10 am so its 803 now, i hope he can fix it...lol

xMagiCx,

I received your IM and am doing some research on why your issue is still occuring.

Here is what I see from your modem:

TX Level: 42.3
RX Level: -10.7
SNR: 34.7

Flap Evaluation
Forward Status: Good
Return Status: Good

The signals are all great and they do not appear to be fluctuating as one would expect.

1) Is the issue exactly the same, with a good connection for a period of time and then your connection receives lag?
2) Can you provide some tracerts to 3 remote urls (dslreports.com, yahoo.com & cox.net) while the issues are occuring so we can see where the lag is coming from?
3) Can you provide a 30 packet ping to your gateway while the issues exists?

Please post any information you have that may help us find a resolution.

Thanks,
Coxtech1

i would love to do some trace routes but cox has the pin/traceroute options disabled...because of the worm...so until they decide its "safe" lol, i cant ping or traceroute anything. I used to run some and remember some of them...some pings...i had a lot of time outs on there...

The issue is that the internet runs great at times, then all of a sudden it will lag for a average of ten seconds, work good for about 1 minute then lag again...this will go on for about 15-60 minutes, its random...then it goes away...tends to come up a lot at night, though im not for sure cause that is when i am online, during the day a lot im gone, work-school-girlfriend, so only at night am i usually on...hmm if you want to please email me...that will be much easier for me...if you could do that thanks, my email incase you dont have it anymore is [Email Address deleted by MOD]

the techs when i call tell me the same thing about my signal,,,i know myself it looks great and there like well is it lagging now? and im like nope and they tell me then its fine...but lag comes at random times and its weird...i had a similar problem with phone about the same time this started...they moved some line towers around my house for a new highway...after that is when this all started happening...cable/phone lines...phone people came out and put us on a completely different line and phone workds great now...cable isnt...i tried telling them that this may be the problem but they dont listen to me they do their tests say looks good should work fine and leave no matter what i say...bad service i think so i call "wichita" again and tell them and they just keep sending techs...i love cox cable but if i cant get this issue fixed by october i am switching to DSL...dont want to and thats why im still with cox after 2 months of this stuff...please help and i apolagize for the long reply...
