Comcast in Marysville (or not?)Anyone heard any updates from Comcast as to when HSI will be available in Marysville? A few months ago it was suppose to go live Sept. 18th, Then I heard Oct. Anyone have the latest untrue rumor? I'm getting tired of calling Comcast and hearing lies. If anyone works there, please give us a more honest time frame. |

Good luck on a honest time frame. I'm hearing they have a lot of work still to do and it could be as soon as Dec 9th or in January. If you are interested - you might like to check out wireless service that is currently running Marysville. Try Nutekwireless.com their phone number is on their webpage. |

I the wirless company. They said they would be out yesterday evening to survey. They were a no show! I think the price for the amount of bandwidth is too steep anyway. I will wait for comcast. |

Comcast work update!
I saw two Comcast bucket trucks working on the overhead wires on the street outside my house this morning when I left for work. They were on the very south end of 67th Ave, just before 67th ends and the road takes that sharp 90 degree turn to the east (44th St). I would have stopped and asked them for an update if I wasn't running late.
Maybe we'll get the gift of broadband for Christmas this year?! |

I could go with Comcast but I get reminded everyday of all the crappy cable service, the continued price increases, the dreadful people on the phones when I call to complain. I quit Verizon because of years of headaches and heartaches. These companies just don't understand what customer service is about. How many years will you put up with this kind of service before you understand there are alternatives. I "could" pay $55 a month for comcast and receive a good bandwidth (for a while) but then the bottlenecks are going to occur, then the complaining, then the irritation around the collar with the red neck and all. No - I'm putting my foot down this time. I'm sinking cable and will probably go satellite with HDTV for my reception and probably get rid of my telephone service completely in lieu of cellular. Why pay companies that tick you off!! Hey Missy at Verizon - I'm pointing fingers in your direction. You had your chance and now I'm letting the cat out of the bag. Don't go telling the city of marysville that everyone is going to have DSL when in fact Verizon is NOT going to update the system in the flat area west of the golf-course, yep you all heard me correct. If you can't qualify right now for DSL, don't hold your breath. How long do you think it'll take to get Comcast to raise their rates again for cable? Sorry folks, I'm pretty irritated with the Marysville Teachers hurting my children out of Greed and Resentment for being the highest paid district in the freakin State!!! Give me your checks!!! |

Just remember, there are always alternatives and for those who can afford it some CLEC's such as Covad & New Edge can offer SDSL/IDSL to parts of Marysville.
It will cost more than ADSL, but since it is considered a business class service it does include SLA's and higher performance.
For those of you considering Satellite such as DirecWav, I would recommend giving SDSL a strong consideration since Satellite service is not cheap ($69.99/mo to over $150.00/mo).
For the same amount or slightly more along with significantly less latency you can have SDSL. It also does not require active telephone service unlike ADSL.
Going this route will allow many of you to choose an alternative telephone service provider such as Vonage especially if cellular services won't work at your home.
Just remember, if you like the idea of using services such as VoIP, they generally are not compatible with Satellite HSI. |

DSL is available in parts of Marysville, I live up Grove street above the golf course and I am now able to get DSL. I installed it Tuesday night and it works great! I can finally get rid of ISDN and the high cost associated. I went thru Verizon for the DSL service. The price is $35 a month and is advertised as 1.5/128, my averages are 1.2/115. I have been waiting a LONG time for high speed bandwidth. |

bmonahan,
Is you ISP Verizon? I live in your general area, off of 79th and Grove and the Verizon site says DSL is not available in my area. How did you find out it was available at your house? Did you have to call them directly to get a better survey?
Thanks,
Nathan |

Lets update everyone again on the Verizon issue. If you do not qualify as of right now (today), you will not get DSL from Verizon. Verizon has made the statement that those living on the west side of 67th (golfcourse) will not be able to get DSL because they will not be replacing the DSLAM or whatever techy term they're using right now. Nonetheless - if you want hi-speed and you live in the flat area west of the golfcourse you have a couple of options. 1. Wait until Dec 9th when Comcast has slated for internet. 2. Buy extra phonelines and go with a dual modem for 99K. 3. Go Wireless with » www.nutekwireless.com4. Attempt SDSL via Speakeasy or Covad. All options are a bit pricey compared to Verizon, but you can have service. I made the decision to go wireless. I might pay a bit more, but my computer is up and running, plus I don't deal with idiots from Verizon or Comcast for my questions. I also can feel safe that rates won't get jacked up on me like Verizon and Comcast is known for yearly. It's up to you all - nothing makes me feel better than ranting about verizon and comcasts methods of dealing with the public. They are there for your money - nothing else. Show them up - go with new technology! |

Another Comcast update:
My cable service was out all day Saturday. I called customer service to find out why. They said it was due to the system upgrade being done in the Marysville area. They said service goes out when the process is nearing completion. I was told these outage only happen during daytime hours and service usually is back before prime time viewing hours begin at 7pm. They also said outages like this will happen 1 to 4 times as the switch is being made. The repair tech said that these outages normally only happen during the weekdays. But because the upgrade is behind schedule in Marysville, management has ordered work to continue on the weekends to get the project done ASAP. They said to expect the channel line up to change in the next few weeks (2-4 weeks) and internet access to become available approx 2 weeks after that. What the repair tech said was right concerning when the service would come back on Saturday - I was able to watch TV in the evening. So, we still may have high-speed cable by Christmas! For those of us that are serviced by a Lk Stevens Verizon central office located far from our homes and have no chance of getting DSL and are not able to get wireless access because of distance and line of sight issues - this is all we can hope for at this point. |

Swampboy - if the system at Comcast is right, you are a lucky man. Yes, please keep this thread posted on the whether or not you do get the service successfully installed. Someone else that lives just off Sunnyside in Marysville city limits was promised an install date back in August (YEZ was user's name, I believe) that never received it because the system wasn't actually ready after all. Hopefully this is different.
I'm on 67th near the very southern end where it becomes 44th at the 90 deg turn to the east, so you're not too far away. |

Swampboy - Question for you... Did your channel line up change in the last couple of weeks? This may not apply if you have digital cable. Comcast said that would happen before the internet service was available. |

I have satellite tv right now.a good freind who lives by the blvd store says his channel line up changed a few days ago.im just keeping my fingers crossed. |

Yup, it was delayed for me until Dec 9th.
I am on 60th drive NE right off of sunnyside. I have seen the vans working like mad even in the rain so they are on a crunch....
Hopes are high that our computers will be blazing along (we are buying #4 for Christmas) on high speed access... |

ndcaputo,
My ISP is verizon. I enter my phone number on their website weekly to see if DSL is available, or used to. One Sunday night three weeks ago it came back and said DSL was available. It is awesome, 1.5/128 with actuals of 1.2/116.
Address is 6804 76 drive NE. Top of hill on Grove and then turn right on 68th. |

Bmonahan,
Wow,
Your just slightly down the hill from me and no DSL. I probably could throw a rock and hit your house ( not literally) from where I live. Just goes to show you either Verizon has their records messed up and is missing out on a bunch of customers or the line quality won't allow DSL past 13,000ft. My distance is around 13,100 according to this site. |

The reason I found out with DSL is the line conditions are so completely antiquated and poor that the person on the phone was utterly shocked that I was getting 52k on my dialup.
Sunnyside Hills connect to the CO at 15,000 feet and is amplified TWICE in order to reach us. = DSL NEVER!!!!!!
My house is down by the creek so I am surrounded by trees (no wireless).
Oh where is my Cable! My last hope... |

Comcast is now available in north Lake Stevens as well. The area near the corner of Hwy 9 and Hwy 92 is now apparently hooked up. I have an appointment for Saturday afternoon to get it hooked up. Everyone in our neighborhood got a notice of availability. They are now booked through Nov 5 for installs. |

You lucky dogs! Congrats! I guess I have to wait |

A Comcast tech was out two days ago and changed the cable termination block outside my house. Yesterday my channel line up changed. Things are looking good!
Hey KrisLang and Swampboy - How is the service working so far? Are you realizing full speeds? |
|
| |
Things are working out really well. The install went smoothly and I was receiving advertised speed without a single call to tech support. Here are the results of a speed test I ran about 30 seconds ago:
2003-11-01 01:19:16 EST: 1821 / 246 Your download speed : 1821396 bps, or 1821 kbps. A 222.3 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 246639 bps, or 246 kbps. Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
I was one of the first in the neighborhood to have it installed so we will see how things go as more people get hooked up. They are currently booked solid for the next few weeks doing installs. I just hope they did a good job of estimating the total load that is going to be generated by our area. |

Thanks KrisLang! That is very good news. I'm with you on hoping that speeds stay fast as the news spreads to all the neighbors. Enjoy your broadband. |
