Re: Insight on how these images were made

I've never really looked into stock photography. Is there any serious money in it?
I've wondered the same thing. It's expensive to buy (except on eBay, but who knows if it's legal.) I would guess that individuals probably wouldn't do well at it, because businesses would rather buy from large firms (that charge $$$) because they have a wide variety of reputable, legal shots.

Then again, these stock photo firms may buy from individual photographers... seems more economical than owning expensive equipment and employing professionals.

Anyone know for sure?

Check there for a list of legitimate stock agencies.

You can send them your images, and if sold, they'll send you like 50% of the price sold.

Have model releases for all identifiable people in your images, as without the release, The stock agencies usually won't take the photos..

Popular stock photo subjects include People at work or play, High tech, travel, scenic and transportation images..

To most photographers stock photo incoms are a supplement to the income, not a huge source of money..

There is a great article in the Sept. 2003 issue of Petersons Photographic. (7 money making tips)
