[Retouching] When helping others...Posting on the digital imaging forum do you save your before and after work? |
|
| |
I only save the after, the before is still available here. I clear out my edits after I gather too many. |

When doing retouching or editing for someone else, I always save the before and after. Mainly save the original in case I decide to try again on it. |

I save every major step of my editing because PS7 only records the last 20 steps in its history, and in case I make a mistake since I'm still in the learning phase. |

No that is only PS7's DEFAULT history setting, you can make it anything you want depending on how much memory and resources you want to devote to Photoshop. (I have mine set to 30) Check in the Edit/preferences settings... note that the dialog box is multiple pages, and that setting is a few in. |

I save some and not others. If it's a long project I've participated in I usually save everything and put it in a folder of its own.
These days storage is so cheap that I don't care how much I accumulate because I can always buy a new hard drive down the road for a MUCH cheaper price than it is/was now. |

yea, make sure to change your default history setting. I could never work with only 20 steps, sometimes, I probably go back more than 60 (im sure im doing something wrong, but when I'm working in on a highly magnified image, i make very small changes, and lots of them to fill up a space... if this looks bad, I need to undo them all). My history setting is currently either at 100 or 200, im not sure. I'd rather be safe then sorry.
as far as editing, I havent worked on a large project for anyone here yet, so I have simply deleted them thus far. If its something that I spend a lot of time on, I will save it of course, probably in its own folder with name and date. |

"save a lot - save often" is my motto when doing edits of any sort. And I find that any time I don't stick to it, those are the times when I wind up with a system crash.:[ |
