Try calling them couple of times to see if results differ.
How can I check if verizon doesn't block port 80?

"Yeah, port 80 is always open. You know, port 80 over on the East River, that's the one we use. It's only port 80 on the Hudson that is closed".

Sometimes the sales monkeys are so anxious to sound like they know what they're selling they end up making royal fools of themselves.

As best we can tell, port 80 is still being blocked in ex-BA territory.

You can use Steve Gibson's ShieldsUp! (Click on the ShieldsUp link) site to scan yourself with all firewalls and NAT's turned off to see what is being blocked upstream. (Shutdown your firewall and do the "All Service Ports" scan.)

Verizon currently blocks TCP ports 80, 88, and 135 on my line.
